Daiwa Emcast Sport Spinning Reels -

From the surf to the flats, Daiwa brings the fight to inshore game fish!

Daiwa's Emcast Sport Spinning Reel is a smooth, balanced fishing machine with cannon-like castability. The Emcast Sport comes raring to go with a super-smooth 8-bearing system (7 ball bearings and 1 roller bearing) and a large-diameter ABS™ aluminum spool that drastically reduces casting friction and makes for silky, consistent drag function. Each reel also sports Gyro Spin® balancing, along with a Twist Buster® line roller that reduces line twist. The Infinite Anti-Reverse virtually eliminates back play and ensures solid hooksets. Each reel also features a one-touch folding handle and comes with a FREE spare aluminum spool.

Line recovery is in inches per handle turn.

These high-capacity reels offer an exceptional value for saltwater surf, jetty, pier or boat use. An excellent choice for big cats, sturgeon, paddlefish as well as other heavy freshwater fish.

Great Value for the Money

I have always used Daiwa reels since they have held up over the test of time under many conditions. When I moved into surf casting I decided to try this reel and found it works great. When using braided line I put backing on half the spool and then my braided line since the reel holds so much. A great value for the money and now own three of them.

Great reel for the price

This is a strong and well built reel. Casts like a dream, and retrieves smoothly. The large handle gives you a lot of leverage. I use this for pier and surf fishing, and I am very pleased with my purchase.

Negative Reviews:

Weak Handle

Bought this reel online & my first impression was: The flip down handle seems like a potential weak point. Sure enough within 4 hours of rough surf fishing the handle snapped at the folding mechanism. Why put needless features that cause weak points? It'd be fine if not for that poor handle design. Heard from a friend that he has had one of these for several years & it has performed "pretty good" in the surf. Mine maybe just a lemon, but I'm not taking the chance on another. Cabelas return policy is easy, so I'll exchange for something without a "folding handle" Or at least a well made one.

Cheapest contender on the block.

Ok, so the price is competitive for a reel this size. I like the folding handle and the cranking power. However, this reel does not speak quality. It is wobbly and not well balanced. Clearly, compromises were made here in workmanship and construction. Loads of plastic everywhere waiting to break and scratch. Those used to smoothness and robustness in a seawater reel will be disappointed. It just feels cheap. Because it is. My toddler will be playing with it soon.
