Dakine Pro II Backpack Reviews:

Reviews:

This pack is great for day trips. It is too small for longer trips, but has enough storage, and compartmental organization to make it ideal for small adventures. The designated sleeves for a shovel handle and a probe make the front pocket very organized for quick access and use. The water hose sleeve in the shoulder strap is slightly more difficult to use at times. Having to thread the hose through the sleeve can become difficult depending on the type of mouthpiece on your water bladder. The outer material could be better in terms of water resistance, but the inside of the pack does stay dry. The large rear compartment of the pack has a pouch for water, and another pouch for miscellaneous items. The regular access through the top zipper is limited though, and only unzips partially. The back access is extremely useful, and helps with packing and organization because it allows full access to the pocket. As a snowboarder and a skier, it is sweet to have both options in terms of gear carrying capability. Overall solid pack, and great bang for your buck.

I was trying to decide between this and the Heli Pro DLX Backpack. The tag on the Pro II showed that it has the vertical snowboard carry. The tag lies. The Heli Pro DLX has the vertical carry.
The Pro II has a back entry area that to get into the main compartment. The top zipper doesn't open very wide and is quite annoying. It is even more annoying if you have a hydration bladder in there because the hose will be in the way. The other pocket is nice though because it has a holder for your shovel handle and your probe to keep them organized and the shovel blade fits in there too!
I like the Heli Pro DLX better because it has the vertical snowboard carry option if you don't want to carry your board vertically, the top zipper opens as far as a normal backpack does, and has a deployable drink holder on the side. It isn't as organized withe shovel and probe as the Pro II, but the other features make it ok.

This pack is a great option for short tours and resort skiing. The pocket dedicated to your backcountry gear is really nice, with slots for your probe and shovel and more pockets for snacks and other gear.
The external helmet carry is great for touring and allows you to use the extra space for more layers and your hydration bladder- the insulated hydration sleeve keeps your water from freezing solid too!
I ordered the "Octane" color and it is just as it appears in the pictures, nice and bright!
The back access on this pack is really nice and makes getting in to the main compartment a breeze!
Of course this Dakine pack also has their awesome horizontal ski carry feature, which comes in handy for those Spring days when you want to follow in Saucer Boy's steps and hike to some gnarly terrain for your Ski Blades.
Here is a pic of me mentally preparing to get rad on my ski blades! (Yes I OWN ski blades, feel free to judge me and my awesomeness)

The size and fit makes this a brilliant pack for slack and backcountry excursions. Pack it with shovel, probe, a layer or two and some other emergency essentials and you're good to go. I've stuffed my 18L Arcteryx Silo 18 to the point of splitting just to get the bare essentials for slack country, but with this pack, I've got enough extra room for some food, repair tools, an emergency bivy and a puffy and/or midlayer. The helmet slot is excellent for secure storage during the skin up.
The diagonal ski carry is, in my opinion, much better than an aframe approach and teh cord is secure and reliable.
HIghly recommend this pack for skiers but not for snowboarders. Though it has a vertical snowboard carry capability, the Heli Pro is far superior with it's secure horizontal snowboard carry feature.

dakine has a well thought-out, detailed bag in the pro II. it's got effective systems for carrying skis, helmets, and goggles. it also has in insulated sleeve for your water, and space for food, layers, and avi gear.
the insulated sleeve can be a little cumbersome as you need to pull your hydration hose out to use it and then push it back up the bag a bit to zip it shut. but it helps prevent your water from freezing. also, you'd be hard pressed to get all the gear you'd need for an overnight trip in the bag. but it works great if you throw it in you larger pack while skinning out and use the pro II for you laps each day.

I got this gift for my brother for his birthday. He Loves it. especially the pack in the green color. It's simple but has all the necessary features he needs in a great overall pack. Fits great while riding and holds all the necessities (plus some). All of your avy gear, tools, extra layers, food, water, and tunes. No complaints, and it looks rad!

Love this pack, it holds everything and packed full of features. Love the fact that I can carry street clothes and gear in the main compartment, have my helmet in the deployable helmet carry, goggles in the goggle pocket and strap my board on the back. The insulated water sleeve is great. Love this thing!

This pack is wack; can't stand all the well thought out features; u should let me be the only one on the hill with it. The only part I enjoyed was buying the hydration bladder separately cuz I totally read the difference between compatible, and comes with.

best price and this backpack rocks! If you are in college and are thinking about getting a backpack for school and skiing, I recommend considering something else however, if you do not pack too much around, this backpack is awesome as a hybrid.
