Dakine Heli Pro DLX Backpack Reviews:

Positive Reviews:

This pack is seriously awesome! The only thing that I wish could be different is the backing. It is solid, heavy backing which is awesome, but it would be cool if it were mesh so I could use this hiking in the summer. But as it is, I think it's best for boarding, which is fine. It's big, has lot's of pockets, and I love the sleeve to keep your water tube from getting frozen. Can't wait to rock this!

Negative Reviews:

I bought this for my girlfriend for sidecountry and short backcountry excursions.
The shovel pocket is a complete joke. It would not hold my girlfriend's backcountry access shovel (can't remember the model) nor my BD transfer 7. The diameter of "quick draw ice axe sleeve" was too small to hold the shovel handle. Also, there's no internal compartments for avy tools (e.g. a probe). So basically, if you want to carry a reasonably-sized shovel and deploy it rapidly in an emergency situation, don't buy this pack.
Also, I didn't weigh it but I have a hard time believing this thing is less than 3 lbs. It's extremely heavy for such a small pack.
This will be returned.

Neutral Reviews:

Just an FYI, the outermost pouch does not have any pockets inside for storage of things unlike it's counterpart the Heli 18L. It's just a smaller compartment. You pay more for this one basically just to have an extra padding against your back that lets you carry your board horizontally and to insulate your hydration line, and a pocket at the waist strap. The Dakine website gives detailed pictures of the Pro II pack which is another upgrade to this pack. I'm taking this pack next weekend to the slopes, and I'll update if there's anything else to add to the review.
