You may be more comfortable sizing downward for open back models (for example, if you are a US size 6.5, you may want to choose EU size 36).
Your heel should be either even with or slightly forward of the back of the clog sandal.
Toes should not hit the front of the clog.
Dansko's versatile mary jane, Margrete has an adjustable elasticized ankle strap.
High quality leather upper follows the natural contours of the foot. Latigo leather has a smooth, tight grain and semi-gloss to transparent finish. To clean and maintain suppleness, Dansko recommends using a cream polish or neutral wax, and for maintaining shine, use a soft cotton cloth to bring brightness back to the surface of the leather.
Instep collar is generously padded.
Roomy Thermoplastic toe box provides durable reinforcement and toe protection while allowing toes to move comfortably.
Nonallergenic vegetable tanned leather sockliner wrapped around synthetic foam absorbs and evaporates perspiration.
Protective Polyethylene heel counter allows the heel to move up and down when walking. Also provides lateral stability and acts as a natural shoe horn.
PVC inner frame provides stability and reduces torque and pronation.
Polyurethane outsole provides shock absorption and flexibility, withstands surfaces of extreme heat and cold, and protects feet, legs and back during long hours of standing or walking.
Rocker bottom propels the foot forward when walking.
Dansko Stapled clog outsoles are designed to be suitably slip resistant in workplace environments where excesses of vegetable oils and animal fats are present. Slip resistant tests have been carried out by SATRA, the world's leading research and technology organization for the footwear industry.
Dansko's Stapled Clog Collection proudly carries the Seal of Acceptance from the American Podiatric Medical Association.

| These shoes have saved my feet, knees, hips & back.\r\n\r\nI have a very active job and am typically on my feet for 8-14 hours a day, most of those hours on very hard walking surfaces (stone, concrete, marble tile).\r\n\r\nI put up with foot, calf, knee, hip & lower back fatigue every day for two years at this job simply because I thought I HAD to...\r\n\r\nand then one day I was killing time waiting for a friend and wandered into a shoe store and saw the Danskos a colleague of mine always swore by.\r\n\r\nI tried them on.\r\nI bought them on the spot.\r\n\r\nDanskos in their classic shapes have a somewhat heavy appearance-- they are clogs, afterall, and blocky-looking. But try them on and you will see-- they are suprisingly light! The soles are thick, but they\'re made of a material that is light and extremely shock-absorbant. They are also surprisingly QUIET on the hard surfaces I walk on all day.\r\n\r\nThe curve of the footbed works extremely well with the natural shape of the foot. There is a rise to the heel, so they\'re not like Earth Shoes or others that drop the heel into a well (which is good for other stuff), but the rise feels comfortable and incredibly natural. The arch support is superb without being obnoxious-- it doesn\'t take any getting used to. The toe-box is wide enough for the natural spread of the forefoot-- no squashed toes, no bunions, no corns here.\r\n\r\nThese shoes offer excellent support without feeling too rigid or in need of breaking in.\r\n\r\nThey are the most natural-feeling structured shoe I have ever worn in my life. They have saved my body and given me hours back in my day simply by alleviating so much physical fatigue that used to build up in my lower body. I cannot praise the comfort of these shoes enough.\r\n\r\nThe style of this model is a little easier to take, too, if you\'re not into the heavier clog styles. They\'re cute, and I get a lot of compliments on them.\r\n\r\nOnly drawbacks, which might be specific to my feet & my occupation:\r\n- the ankle strap chafes one particular part of my left foot when i wear these without stockings. i just wear a bandaid under the strap where it rubs and it\'s fine. or i go without the bandaid and just deal w/ the light chafing. it\'s mild, not any worse than i\'ve had with any other shoe, and certainly better than some.\r\n\r\n- the material of the upper on mine is a leather that scuffs super-easily. i am a preschool teacher and am constantly kneeling down, getting back up, sitting criss-cross, getting back up, etc. , and the leather is quite scuffed now across the tops of the toes (from kneeling), and along the outsides (from sitting criss-cross). the leather isn\'t wearing THROUGH in any spots, but the scuffing is very noticeable and I\'m not sure what to do about that yet. | |

| Dansko does it again! The Dansko Margrete is simply fabulous, I wear them with everything from a dark wash jean doing weekend errands to summer dresses and skirts. These versatile shoes are superior in comfort and style. I love Dansko, but not all of their shoes work for me and I usually have to try them on an individual basis. There was no "break in" time with this shoe - it was absolutely comfortable out of the box. I went with my regular size 8 1/2 (39) that I wear in all Dansko styles in the rich brown and they fit perfectly. You can wear them barefoot or with socks, I like to pair mine with a cozy pair of Smartwool. My feet are on the narrow side and these fit well without being too baggy. There is some room as the heel strap isnt adjustable, but I find that it stays on securely. I treated mine with waterproof/leather protector and find myself reaching for them regardless of the weather. I cant wait to return to Zappos to purchase a pair in black. For people who prefer a closed back shoe, I recommend the Dansko Sally which is the same style clog with a covered back. I hope my experience aids you in your search for the perfect shoes. | |

| These are the most comfortable shoes ever for my flat, narrow feet. I punch two extra holes in the strap and they work fine for my AAA width. (They\'re loose in the toe box, of course, but that\'s no problem.) The hard shank is essential for supporting the flat foot. This style of Dansko--the clog style, not the more streamlined, styley collections--offers the best support. And the Margrete goes with jeans, pants, capris, tights & skirts, whatever. I find that the open back and vented toe makes them look not too wintry to wear with bare feet in summer, but not too summery to wear with tights/socks in winter. Basically, the perfect shoe. My only complaint is that the heel tread wears down pretty fast. I just got another pair and was kind of bummed to look at my Zappos record and realize that my previous pair only lasted 18 months before the heels were worn down on the outside corners and making my feet oversupinate (rock outwards). But I wear them practically every day, so I guess that\'s not so bad. | |

| Great shoe! As with all the Danskos I have, I had to order a larger size than I would with other shoes. I normally wear a 10, and I ordered the size 41 which corresponds to a 10.5-11. This shoe has excellent arch support and I would highly recommend it to anyone with plantar fasciitis (which I have) and/or anyone who is on their feet all day. My toes have plenty of room however the leather that is beneath the toe bed is pretty snug across my foot. I don't have especially wide feet either; my foot is an average width. This is something I have encountered with other Danskos as well. Based on past experience I am confident that once I break them in they will feel perfect. The shoe is cute looking too, I might order other colors one of these days. Overall, I recommend this shoe highly. Also, Zappos is wonderful. I can't imagine buying my shoes elsewhere anymore. | |

| Dankso Margrete - I own three pairs of this shoe in different colors and love them. I've worn two of them year-round for a couple of years with socks in the winter and without in the summer. I do have wide feet (with bunions); and while each pair fits differently, they do fit. I just received my fourth pair of the Margretes in brown (felt I better get another pair before they're discontinued). However, the new pair is not only too tight; I couldn't even get them on. My other brown pair, which is the most comfortable, was made in Poland; these new tight ones are made elsewhere. It's not just the leather upper that's too tight, the entire foot bed (measured across the sole) is narrower. What a disappointment! Zappos, however, is great. I ordered these shoes one day and got them the next. What excellent service! | |

| I've just ordered three different Dansko styles and found the sizing between them confusingly different. These absolutely lovely shoes are slightly small in the size 40 that I ordered, despite the fact that Dansko's new sizing seems to require a 40 for me in some other styles. I'm puzzled by the inconsistencies in sizing that I've experienced with Dansko this year. I was a solid 39 two years ago when I started with stapled clogs, but this year seemed to need a size 40 instead. The 40 in other styles, like the Lotus, however, is waaay too big. So, you'll like this clog-sandal shoe if you like Dansko clogs, but you might have to experiment a bit to get the right size. I DO like that Dansko clog styles now have slightly thicker heels, making the ankle support a little better. | |

| Great shoe!! I've had this shoe for going on 6 years, and they're great!! It did take me a while to get used the arch support and the lack of cushion, but after adding the gel inserts I've been wearing them all day every day for several years now! As a hairdresser I wish they were cuter and trendier (I feel matronly), but they're worth it! The elastic has since gone out (I'll just replace it), and when my feet get wet (or sweat) the black dye still comes off on my feet. Overall, for having wide problem feet, these are great!!! | |

| My favorite shoes ever! I have these shoes in red and they're my favorite shoes ever. I think I've been subconsciously buying grey, black, and red clothes in the last few years just so I can wear them more often! I have a REALLY high arch and so I had to go to my local Dansko dealer and have them stretched a bit and have a couple more holes punched into the straps, but after that they fit like a dream right away with minimal "breaking in". I get compliments on them almost every time I wear them. | |

| I had already owned a pair of these shoes, but after 10 years they finally wore out. I can\'t get along without them in the summer. They are very comfortable, dress up any outfit, yet don\'t look out of place with casual clothes. Zappos was the least expensive web outlet for them, and their free shipping and wonderful customer service made it a no risk option. The shoes, by the way, seem to be made of a less sturdy leather than they were 10 years ago, but in every other detail they have been improved. | |

| Margrete Shoes - I love these shoes. I have them in brown and black. They go with everything and I can wear them in the summer without socks or in the winter with socks/tights. The straps make them even better than the regular clogs because they don't slip in the heel at all. I actually walk about 2 miles per day in them and have never had any problem with comfort or support. Plus, they are super cute! | |

| I have four pair of Dansko Margretes. The first three pair that I bought were made in Poland and they are my very favorite shoes of all time. Perfectly comfortable, perfect in every way. The last pair I bought was manufactured in China and it is a very poor imitation of the original Margrete. The leather scuffed up on the toes the first time I wore them and I couldn\'t even cover the scuffs with shoe polish (something another reviewer noted). The shoes are tighter, the straps are shorter. The leather on the side of the shoes is cheaper. And what might be the worst thing of all: the shoe soles started to loudly squeak by the third time I wore them. They squeak-squeak each time I take a step! Sorry Dansko, you\'ve lost a long-time customer. | |

| The brown leather on the Margrete scuffed up the first day I wore them, and even if I polish the leather they show scuffs again with just one wear. The leather on one shoe is also a little different than the other - something I overlooked when I bought them, but now it's apparent that the leathers don't come from the same source because they have worn differently. The ankle straps also sheds these little strings that I have to keep pulling off and I've also almost worn through the strap that goes in the buckle. I've only had these shoes for 7 months, and they're already a mess. So much for Dansko quality! | |

| OUCH!! Poorly finished on the inside of the shoe. A rough spot over my toe rubbed very badly. I was unable to even file the spot down. I am unable to wear these expensive shoes. | |
