Darn Tough Merino Wool Micro Crew Light Cushion Reviews:

Positive Reviews:

I have owned two pairs of these for several years now, and have put them through dozens and dozens of full, strenuous days in the backcountry and still cannot notice ANY significant wear OR piling of the wool. I usually have to retire my wool hiking socks to the casual wear drawer after about a year because they lose thickness and wear a bit on some spots, but these are the first and only socks I've owned that have lasted well over 3 years and still are in active duty (not in the casual, retired drawer). They have outlasted numerous other pairs of socks which I've owned for a shorter period of time. So far, they are indestructible. Oooooooorah Darn Tough, oorah!

I have two pair of these socks in olive that I received as a gift. I have worn them 5 days a week for nearly 3 years. They do not stink. They have not worn down. There are no holes (unlike smartwool which always falls apart quick). The elastic is still good. They are still comfortable and they are still warm.
Best socks I've owned. Only other merino sock I can compare it to is my multiple smartwool running socks and some columbia hiking socks.
Any future merino sock purchases, I will look for Darn Tough.

I've never had a pair of Darn Tough socks before, so I thought I would give them a try. First time on they feel exactly that, Darn Tough! These socks just feel like they are going to hold up for awhile. Wore them for two days all day for the first wearing and not any horrible odors forming. Day three was time to wash them. Going to keep my feet happy this winter and more to come!

At my brother's request I recently bought him more Darn Tough socks - he already had a few pairs but wanted more so he could wear them everyday. This is what he had to say about this particular pair that I just got him "Simple design, comfortable, warm and breathable. I've been wearing these socks for a few weeks now and they show no signs of stretching. Just wish I had a few more pairs."

Before I found out about this company: I would have to constantly pull up my socks every (lets say) hour. Being I like a full coverage sock, I knew nothing better. I had read about these socks in a Rock&Ice Magazine saying there pretty much bullet proof. Let me tell you this, these socks are simply freakin amazing. Just an all around great sock. I promise you you'll love em as much as I have.

I bought two pairs of these socks based on the below reviews and they have been great so far. These socks feel great and whats even better is that they stay up through the day. I got a size medium and wear around size 9 in street shoes and they fit great. I will return to update this after I have worn them more. The ones pictured are the chocolate color.

You can bet your bottom dollar that Darn Tough makes the best socks on our website. I would say Smartwool gets 2nd place. I just put my new lime colored Crew socks on to snap a picture for this review, and now I don't want to take them off. Supposed to be saving them for a wedding. I bought size Large for my size 11.0 feet, and they fit perfect.

This is a great, well built sock that will last. I'm on season #2 with em. However, the sizing seems to run a bit small. I often wear a size 13 shoe, but have a somewhat low volume foot, occasionally fitting into size 12's and still found the XL to fit almost too tight around the heel to the front of my ankle.

Armand Alexeev at Backcountry.com on 03/12/2012

These are the best socks ever. Until recently, I always bought smart wool, even though I wear through them way too fast.
I found Darn Tough about 8 months ago, tried them and they really are amazing.
I initially bought them because of their warranty, but now I just love them.
I just bought 3 more pair. They live up to their name.

Great for everything! Very nice fit, and stays in place well. Holds up to quite a bit of abuse and only shows minimal wear. Odor control is top notch. Can use all season, even as a heavy liner sock in really cold conditions. My favorite sock to wear to the office as well. I definitely recommend!

Negative Reviews:

I'm taking back my 5 stars I gave in previous reviews of Darn Tough socks. I used to consider Darn Tough the BEST. But my last 4 pair of Moreno have come undone at the seam at the top front of the sock. I am still wearing Darn Tough socks 3 years old and they are doing great. But every pair I have bough in the past year seems inferior. What's going on? I hate to trash a brand I used to love, but maybe they will make things right again. I can see maybe one bad pair, but 4 out of the last 4 while my old ones keep going strong? Is it just me?

Neutral Reviews:

Ordered the 'taupe stripe' ones and it turns out they are women's socks. Specifically says women's on the packaging. I really don't have a problem wearing "women's" socks, but I was hoping for more cushioning in the back of the heel. Definitely a little disappointed that BC has these mislabeled. Based on the photos, I'm guessing the 'seafoam' socks are also women's. I'm sure my wife will be enjoying them.

I've been using mostly SmartWool hiking socks and thought I'd give these a try - they seem okay but doesn't seem to have the "soft feeling" of SmartWool. I'll give it half a year and update.
