DC Therm Down Jacket

Men's Clothing > Jackets & VestsRated: 5 by 44 reviews.

DepartmentOfGoods

Step into the Ice Age and head to the mountain in the DC Men's Therm Down Jacket. This ¾-length snowboard coat keeps you oblivious to the cold, no matter how low the mercury goes. And this jacket is more than just warm—it has a 5K waterproof rating and it's super breathable. DC gave the Therm parka a removable faux-fur-lined hood as well as a removable waist gaiter. Après-shred, leave the hood and gaiter in the trunk and make an appearance at the pub without looking like a beater who wears his snowboard jacket everywhere he goes. As any seasoned rider knows, little features can make a jacket great—like the MP3 pocket beneath the Therm coat's storm flap, which lets you manage your tunes with out unzipping your coat.

Industrial Grade

Last season, I picked up an Alycium Paramount synthetic fill (what would we do without WhiskeyMilitia, et al?) and I've been happy with it, but it's not warm enough for insanely cold weather or wearing around town. The DC Therm definitely does not have the same problem. This jacket is serious business. The first thing I noticed was the bulk. There's a lot of down fill and a lot of fabric. This is not a light jacket in any sense of the word. Despite the weight and loft, the Therm doesn't feel clumsy while it's being worn. You won't forget you're wearing it, but it doesn't get in the way and there's remarkably little restriction of arm mobility. The fit isn't as large as I had expected after reading the reviews below. I'm 6', 165 lbs and I usually wear Medium tops - sometimes Small, if the fit is super baggy. A Medium Therm gave me plenty of room to layer, but isn't sloppy. The sleeves reach to the end of my palm and there's an extended cuff at the back of the hand to prevent a gap from opening. The body is three-quarter length and extends just below my fingertips. Since I like a slimmer fit than what most people prefer, my idea side would be halfway between a Small and Medium. The Small would've been too small. The insulation provided by this jacket exceeds anything I've found in the ski/snowboard world. If the Therm doesn't keep you warm, your only choice is a mountaineering expedition parka. Everything about this jacket borders on overkill: The quantity of down fill, the heavy fabrics, the number and size of the pockets, the features, the detachability and adjustability of everything...there's a lot going on here. I usually prefer a minimalist approach, but this excess works well on the Therm: instead of feeling encumbered, I feel invincible, even when the weather is trying to kill me. I've rated the Therm 4/5 because, as much as I like this jacket and am glad I bought it, it isn't perfect. To get a perfect rating, DC would have to: - Maintain the performance and versatility at a lighter weight - Make the hood a little larger, extend the coverage around the face, and elongate the brim - Leave the hem length, but raise the bottom of the zipper to ease leg movement and improve access to the bottom of the zipper - Replace the shockcord thumb loops with wrist gaiters

Pro's Zip out hood and removable faux fur(soft not wirery fur) LARGE Mesh Pit Zips Removable\Working powder skirt with 3 snaps to keep put. Easy access magnetic front pockets Soft\smooth collar won't irritate neck\skin Acceptable quality zippers with tie offs Very very nice pocket configuration, all pockets are usable and smart. Great mesh mini-pocket for earbuds. Down Fill makes it warm, warm, warm Cons 3\4 length and Down fill make jacket heavier than most snowboarding coats(Heavy=Warm) Fit is strange I'm 5'11, 195Lbs and I wear a medium, most jackets I wear a large or Xlarge. 5K waterproofing is a little on the weak side but honestly that all most people need from a jacket. Overall this is a very nice jacket I bought for just walking around and staying warm while waiting for the bus but I may end up using it on cold days as its.

Great functionality, very warm!

Rating:*****

This jacket is great. It has very cleverly designed pockets and fits pretty much everything you need it to. My previous jacket didn't have a powder skirt, so I really like that feature in this jacket. There are two things I wasn't very impressed with. There is a thumb loop at the end of the sleeves to prevent the sleeves from sliding up, and I found this loop to be kinda small, especially when you are wearing gloves. So it's hard to use. Also, I was expecting this jacket to be a little smaller. I'm 5'8" 135lbs. and I got the small expecting it to fit snug but it's still loose, but that's just the fit of snowboarding jackets. You get used to it though. The looks are killer, also the white camo color is not white, it's actually an off white tone.

Nice jacket for cold climate

Rating:*****

Great down jacket for the price, very very warm with lots of pockets and features. Its a little on the heavy side for snowboarding but I'm using it for walk around jacket anyways, gets dam cold waiting for the 270 express when it's -20 below 0 with blowing wind and ice in Minnesota. Pros: Detachable hood and pow skirt, lots of nice pockets, 5k waterproofing, very comfortable. Cons: A little on the heavy side but that's really why it's so warm. I'm 5'10 200lbs and the large is just a touch to big, not enough for me to send it back though this thing will keep me alive in case my car breaks down this winter.

Great Jacket

Rating:*****

Just got this jacket yesterday. It was about -20 degrees celsius today, and I was still plenty warm in it. The hood is large, and great protection against the wind. Tomorrow should be around -40, which will be the real test, I guess, but I have faith the jacket will perform admirably. Only issue I've had is the zipper broke today, but it isn't a big deal; it can still zip, I just had to macguyver a keychain ring in there so I can actually pull the thing up and down. Apart from that, really warm, and looks awesome in the plaid.

have not worn in the cold weather yet but i was sweating trying it on. but it's huge. i'm 150, 5'9" and i swim in this coat. i can wear my 686 Ace Weave Down Jacket under it. seriously. but the therm coat was only $66 so i think i'll keep it. the photo camo is interesting...looks like lesions form a distance, and the white is slightly off white, not much but not as white as the picture. there is a rape whistle in one of the inner pockets too. it should be handy for the coming ice age.

Solid jacket

Rating:*****

Jacket is solidly built but the white and red camo can be misleading, its more of a cream and red. Still a nice color, and it should be a little easier to keep clean then a white jacket. It is heavy, but I dont this its too heavy to have as an extreme cold jacket as Whistler can hit some of those -15 (celcius) days and my previous jacket just wasnt enough. I look forward to trying this jacket out on the mountain as trying it on, writting this review I am already sweating in it it so warm!

good but not great

Rating:***

I picked up this jacket in black for $80 earlier this year on brociety. It's good but great. Riding with it about a dozen the zipper already broke off and the seems on the zipper are coming apart at the very bottom. I would have been disappointed if i paid anywhere near full price.
