Deeluxe designed the Empire Snowboard Boot for riders who want to conquer the entire mountain. Deeluxe's Section Control Lacing makes finding the perfect fit easy and allows the Empire to be adjusted mid-ride without even unstrapping your binding. The Empire's fairly stiff flex delivers excellent response on challenging steeps, and full waterproofing keeps your foot dry when you end up having to post-hole to the very top of runs off the ridge.
These boots have three cord-pull adjustments: one for inner liner and two for the outsides. It provides a good tight fit, but for the liner you need to pull the cord then push the lock down as low as possible on the cord toward your feet for it to look. I like the cord handle pockets for the outside cords. As for the plastic locking units on the inner side of the boot, I knocked them against each other casually walking which was a nuisance. They are also a challenge to get off - pull the lock tabs up and push the tough down like mad.
FYI, this boot is extremely bulky. I went from a size 10.5 Burton Driver X to a size 10 Empire Deluxe and gained an inch of boot length. Now I'm dealing with serious toe-drag issues and my boots barely fit in my bindings (medium burton customs and cartels)
