As those who've followed the progression of De Marchi's bib shorts can attest, the Contours created a name for themselves with their dependable structure and long-distance comfort. In fact, these bib shorts have been De Marchi's most popular due to their smart design that works to support the body for hours on end. For 2014, the shorts take on the name Leggero, and they've been redefined with even more support features made possible through a lightweight fabric design and revamped chamois technology.
The Leggero bib shorts were constructed using several select blends of lightweight stretch fabrics. These materials incorporate a relatively high elastane content in order to deliver a firm compressive fit around key muscle zones. What this gradual hold means is that you'll be comfortable during the beginning, middle, and end of a long ride, as compressive fabrics shield your muscles from oscillation and road vibration. The lightweight nature of the main material also wicks moisture exceptionally well, so that besides staying supported in the saddle, you'll also remain cool and dry. De Marchi's stretch materials then smoothly transition into microfiber mesh bib straps and back panel. This mesh provides you with the ultimate in ventilation and comfort by targeting the front and backside of your upper torso.
De Marchi placed an equal focus on implementing technical fabrics into the Leggero as it did refining the bib shorts' fit. Like previous iterations, these shorts were created with the perfect combination of freedom of movement, stability, and breathability. This contoured fit was made possible using the company's Body Framing Technology as a means to stabilize the shorts while in the cycling position. This is accomplished using pre-shaped fabric panels that closely follow the body while in motion. At the cuffs, stretch jacquard grippers keep the panels secure. When sewn together, these panels form somewhat of a three dimensional shape on their own, mimicking the body before even reaching your skin. The result is a pair of bib shorts that eliminate all unnecessary material, leading to the best fit possible.
De Marchi paired its Giro Dual Denstiy EIT insert into the bib shorts. Known as its endurance chamois, the Giro incorporates super high density, ventilated cushioning elements in correspondence with the ischial bones. Additionally, front channels of open cell foam were placed in the perineal zone, which is more compressed to accommodate your body while in the cycling position. The specific "half-moon" seamless shaping perfectly contours to the shorts' paneling to eliminate bunching and creates a middle channel where the body stays suspended for effective pressure relief and improved blood flow.
The De Marchi Leggero Bib Shorts - Men's are available in six sizes from X-Small to XX-Large and in the color Black. Please note: De Marchi relies heavily on European sizing, so please make your selection accordingly.
So I just received these shorts, I ordered smalls. They fit like Medium Assos and other Euro Brands. That said, the shorts appear to be well crafted and were comfortable on my first ride in them. Though the chamois is thin it offered appropriate amounts of cushion is appropriate places!
Follow up 2/13/14- Now that I have a about 40 hrs of riding in these I'm even more impressed. Very comfortable shorts with a great chamois.
Didn't get to wear them yet but the material is extremely soft. leg grippers feels nice. i sized up based on usual italian fit and they feel good, may have been able to buy regular size. Gonna be great for spring and summer and maybe early fall rides.
I will update after first spring ride!
My kit came in today. I usually wear a large in Capo or Pearl Izumi. A large in De Marchi would be a little too big. I bought a medium size bib and it fits me fine.
I am a novice rider and comfort is of the utmost importance to me. Chamois is thin and only good for short rides. Got these on sale for $50 and they perform pretty much at that price point. You get what you pay for with these bibs. They have been returned.
I'm 6' 185#s and went with the large. Right out of the bag, felt like I was holding a XXL size. Very loose fit with absolutely no compression. Chamois is also thin. These are going back...
Received these in the mail today, tried on, and they are huge. Very disappointed on the sizing. I ordered a size larger than what I normally wear based on the "Please note: De Marchi relies heavily on European sizing, so please make your selection accordingly" comment in the description. I don't find them to be sized that way at all! Probably won't return them because what I paid for them on Chainlove and the shipping costs but these bib shorts will never see the road and will be relegated to use on the wind trainer. Gave a 3 star review only because they seem to be made well and the chamois is adequate, but don't buy into the European sizing claim in the description.
