Used for the Camino Santiago

I used this backpack for the Camino Santiago, a 500 mile trek through Northern and Western Spain. The suggested load was 15 lbs and I packed this thing with about 16 lbs. and it had room to spare. It was very nice but I think for the Camino I'd go with a lighter pack like the REI Flash. Every ounce mattered on this trek since I was walking about 15-20miles/day. The only thing that bugged me was there was this creaking sound that I couldn't seem to get rid of and then one day it disappeared.

I have no real complaints about this pack. I loved the two compartments. Deuter has two packs, however, that I wish they would combine into the perfect pack. Mine had two compartments and the other had one compartment but a removable lid that you could carry as a daypack. This would have helped me immensely as I sent my backpack ahead on a few occasions and it would have been nice to have a little daypack. If you put the removable lid with the two compartments…. perfect.

I loved that the spine was adjustable. The other packs I was looking at weren't very adjustable and since my waist and torso don't fit the Small/Medium/Large sizing very well this was great.

I also loved the hydration pack compartment. Made keeping hydrated very easy compared to the other pilgrims who had to always get help taking their water containers out of their side pockets.

I later took the pack on a 10 mini vacation through Sicily and Malta and it worked out just fine. It's a great pack but if you're walking a lot for 30 days + you might want to go with a lighter weight.

Versatile, yet streamlined

I went shopping for this product to replace a bag that I was using that was my husband's old bag. I wanted something smaller than the 80 L that I also used sometimes (his newer bag) but could still work for a weekend. I really like the separated accessible sleeping bag pocket on the bottom (like our 80L), the TWO pockets on the top, the hip pocket (great for a headlamp or lip balm and hand gel), inside map pocket and the fact that the top can't be completely unclipped (makes it easier to put it back on in the morning). It's extendable but still lightweight. The pack itself seems durable enough, I only clicked delicate because of two things: 1) the stretchy thin material on the water bottle pockets and 2) the same material on the external stash pocket (though this may help a wet jacket dry). There's nice ways to lash stuff outside but not too many extra cords like you see on many packs. I got a green one sans yellow flower (nice touch but why?). I had gone shopping for another pack that had a raincover but it didn't fit my sleeping bag in its pouch, so I got this. Wish it had a raincover with it, but I can always buy one if I need it. Haven't taken it backpacking yet, but it was great on a week long car trip to CA where we were in a different place each night as well as a weekend at a medieval event holding lots of bulky dresses.

NICE!

This is the first pack I've gotten for myself in decades and it worked out fairly well. I haven't quite given it as challenging a pace (I'm just getting started...again), so I can't really say anything about Cons because I haven't met up with any. One concern I have though, are the clips of the straps. In past experiences with plastic clips, they are not very durable and the design for the clips on this pack seem a tad "girlie" delicate. The zippers work well and the adjustable straps are easy to work as well as the drawstring inner closure at the top. I am very thankful to the REI assistance I got in sizing this pack to my frame (short torso) because the weight of the pack was evenly distributed for ease of carriage and balance. I bought a 1.8 liter soft water bottle with drinking tube for it and found the pack design easily accommodate it. I am looking forward to getting more mileage on this pack and will return with updates. So far, I'm very pleased with it's performance and am happy with my investment.

Loving it!

I have taken this pack on two backpacking trips now, one five day and one three day. It has been great. I had a pretty heavy, small pack previously so this is a nice change. I tend to pack fairly light 20-25lbs so this works great for me. It is super comfortable, easy to adjust, and well organized.
The only trouble I have had was on my longer trip which required that I carry a bear canister. Once I had my bladder full and in the pouch and then loaded my bear canister and other gear it was a pretty tight squeeze. It is mainly just a bit narrow for carrying the bear canister which doesn't give. It wound up putting too much pressure on my bladder and causing it to leak out the top. I was able to adjust by carrying less water or not putting the bladder in the designated pouch but that was a small bummer. Love the pack over all!

my first

Having spent months researching, I finally took advantage of REI's sale, and went to the store. The very helpful assistant measured me and listened to my needs. The Deuter is perfect for me! Adjustable and light weight, the bag feels ALMOST weightless! I have packed and repacked many times to find the best advantage, and always the pack feels lighter on my back than when I lift it up, which I appreciate as an older woman with osteopenia. It accomodates everything I need, and I will be buying a raincover and a water bladder for it. The pack does not bump my head because of the variable adjustment. Love it! I like the easy access, roomy side pockets and the top zipper compartment. Also, the stretchy pocket in back is great for a sweater.

Love it

This is my first own Pack, I used to rent from REI and hated those bulky old kind of Packs. I used it on Inca trail to Machu Pichu for 4 days trip and felt really comfortable and was able to run down the stairs without pack jumping all over my back.
Love the sleeping bag pouch and front little accessible pocket, but wish it was little bigger so I could put my phone or little camera in it.
and wish there was another pocket on the other side too.

I love the green color and Flower is little something to make you smile (I always try to buy everything green) :)
Can't wait to use it again soon!

Great pack, just enough nooks & crannies

Took this pack on my first trip to South America as part of a medical mission. Used the pack to travel on the plane with clothes and sleep gear then hiking through the mountains with medical supplies and medications. The guys I was with loved the bag and were happy to carry it, too (even though it's styled for a woman). I was pleasantly surprised by the extra compartments, including those on the top and sides of the pack and even in the front (great for paper products). The lighter parts got a little stained from usual wear and tear, but the body held up without fail. Would buy this pack again in a heartbeat.

Great Women's Pack

I was looking for a moderately-sized pack to get into camping. As a petite woman, I was having trouble finding a pack that fit comfortably. An REI salesperson recommended this pack, and it's just what I was looking for. It's adjustable, the shoulder and hip straps are very comfortable, and the size is versatile. After ordering online, I took it into the store to get it adjusted and test it with weight in it. I'm very pleased!

Greak Pack

After looking for months and many packs later, I found this pack. I am 5"7' and weigh in at 115 lbs. I also have a thirteen level spinal fusion. I am thrilled with this pack!!! It is easy to adjust and has great padding in the hip belt. The pack also has a lifetime warranty. It has been a great investment.

Great Pack but Needs more Compartments

This pack's first hike was a one night, 15 mile trek on the Appalachian Trail. This is a great, comfortable pack. Easy to load and easy to put on and off. I like the seperated sleeping bag compartment that can be unzipped to make one large compartment. The only thing I would have liked more would be more exterior pockets/compartments.

Generally okay

I've recently gotten into backpacking and have taken this bag on two three-day trips. It's a mostly very manageable bag, the main problem I have is with the adjustable torso. I am 5'2" and this bag towers above me, throwing my balance off with how top-heavy it is. This problem is exacerbated by the fact that both times I've gone out with it I've packed the 10L extension full. This bag would be great for shorter trips or perhaps traveling.

I am going to exchange this bag next time I go out for one that is meant to fit a short frame.
