Diamondback Mason FS 29er Bike -
Diamondback Mason FS 29" Bike 2014.
The Diamondback Mason FS represents a pinnacle in technology and innovation. Utilizing their Knuckle Box suspension, Diamondback designed a 140mm travel all-mountain slayer that climbs with the aggression of a mountain goat and descends with the prowess of the mountain lion. Featuring a tapered head tube, a 142×12mm thru axle, and optimally placed pivots, the frame was designed around low leverage rate and a low center of gravity. The tight linkage cradles the rear shock and the tight aluminum hardware with Force-Rated Enduro Max Bearings withstands higher loads and better handles oscillating motion. The rear seatstay bridge has been beefed up to handle better lateral forces for the stiffest rear end available. Wrap all of these goodies into a frame with a 66.5 degree headtube angle, a low BB and short chainstays and you've got yourself one killer all-mountain destroyer.
Loading up the front end is a Fox 34 Float 29 CTD air fork, 140mm / 110mm travel, open cartridge, with external rebound, butted alloy 1.5 tapered steerer, 34mm Easton aluminum stanchions, magnesium lowers, w/QR15 thru axle. Paired with a Fox Float rear shock with Boost Valve and CTD settings (Climb, Trail, Descend), The Mason FS 29" has all your suspension needs covered.
32h AM290HD double wall disc specific rims are laced to 32h sealed cartridge bearing hubs and thru axles for a stout yet light weight wheelset. Some benefits of a 29” wheel include:
The drivetrain is ready to roll with a RACEFACE Respond 24/36 2-ring 10 spd with outboard bearing bottom bracket. Combine this with a SRAM X-9 Type 2 10spd rear derailleur with X-7 trigger shifter, and a SRAM PG-1030 10spd Cassette (11-36t) and you have a simplistic approach that offers a variety options to get you up and down the trail with ease. AVID Elixir 5 Hydraulic Disc brakes with 200mm front & 180mm rear HS-1 rotors offer optimized stopping power when and where you see fit. The cockpit of the Mason FS 29" is decked out with an Easton EA50 stem and DB PROBAR handlebars, an Easton EA50 Double Bolt seatpost and the WTB Silverado Race SL saddle.

  • Surface Contact – 29”wheels are less prone to sinking in soft material such as sand and mud due to the larger contact patch causing lower ground pressure. The longer contact patch increases cornering and straight line traction.

  • Taller Riders – 29" bikes tend to offer taller riders a more “natural” frame geometry.
  • 6061-T6 weapons-grade aluminum frame boasts an array of formed and butted-and-formed tubes along with a tapered head tube to deliver a strong, stiff and responsive ride

Traction and Grip:

  • Diamondback AM290HD rims spin smoothly around sealed cartridge bearing hubs and are wrapped with Kenda Nevegal 29 x 2.2 tires for great traction

  • The heart of the Mason FS 29er is the Knuckle Box platform, which lowers the center of gravity of the suspension to optimize efficiency and effortlessly absorb small bumps
  • Specs on the Diamondback Mason FS 29er full-suspension mountain bike are subject to change

  • Stability – The relative position of the bottom bracket/cranks to the axles in the wheels also means that your relative center of gravity is lower. This results in a feeling of riding “in” the bike rather than on top of it.
  • Tire Clearance – with more tire choices than any platform, the 29”wheel easily accommodates off road as well as commuting tires.
  • Angle of Attack – Larger wheels decrease your angle of attack by allowing you to roll over obstacles easier and faster. Bigger wheel = smaller obstacle.
  • SRAM X7 shifter guides the SRAM X9 Type 2 rear derailleur quickly and precisely through the 20 gears
  • Momentum – A larger wheel enables one to carry momentum easier though obstacles.
  • Fox Float CTD Air rear shock can be easily tuned between the 3 CTD settings (Climb, Trail, Descend) for efficiency on any gradient with great protection from bottoming out
  • Fox 32 Float CTD 29 Air fork has 140mm of travel that can be easily tuned among the 3 modes, and includes a tapered steerer, magnesium lowers and a 15mm thru axle
  • RaceFace Respond double-ringed crankset is paired with a 10-speed, 11-36t cassette for a simple approach to trail domination
  • Slack 66.5° head tube angle offers stable, confidence-inspiring handling on aggressive trails; 16.77 in. long chainstays make it easier to get the front up over obstacles
  • Avid Elixir 5 hydraulic disc brakes deliver responsive braking thanks to a 180mm rotor up front and 160mm rotor in the back
