Diamondback Mason FS Pro Bike -
Diamondback Mason FS Pro Bike 2014.
The Diamondback Mason FS Pro represents a pinnacle in technology and innovation. Utilizing their Knuckle Box suspension, Diamondback designed a 140mm travel all-mountain slayer that climbs with the aggression of a mountain goat and descends with the prowess of the mountain lion. Featuring a tapered head tube, a 142×12mm thru axle, and optimally placed pivots, the frame was designed around low leverage rate and a low center of gravity. The tight linkage cradles the rear shock and the tight aluminum hardware with Force-Rated Enduro Max Bearings withstands higher loads and better handles oscillating motion. The rear seatstay bridge has been beefed up to handle lateral forces better for the stiffest rear end available. Wrap all of these goodies into a frame with a 66.5 degree headtube angle, a low BB and short chainstays and you've got yourself one killer all-mountain predator.
Loading up the front end is a Fox 34 Float 29 CTD adjust FIT w/ Kashima coat, 140mm travel with external rebound, butted alloy 1.5 tapered steerer, 34mm Easton aluminum stanchions, magnesium lowers, w/QR15 thru axle. Paired with a Fox Float rear shock with pedal platform and CTD settings (Climb, Trail, Descend), the Mason FS Pro has all your suspension needs covered.
An Easton HAVEN 24h 29” Clincher wheelset wrapped in KENDA Nevegals w/ STICK-E rubber compound make for a premium, light weight trail oriented package.
Some benefits of a 29” wheel include:
The Mason FS Pro's drivetrain is armed to the teeth with a SRAM X1 X-Sync 11spd 32t crankset with GXP Sealed outboard bearing bottom bracket. This crankset combined with a SRAM X-0 X-Horizon Type 2 11spd rear derailleur and trigger shifter, and a SRAM XG-1195 11spd Cassette (10-42T) makes for an impressive minimalist set up that saves weight while providing a range of gearing options to get you where you want to go. AVID XO Trail 4 Piston hydraulic disc brakes with 200mm front & 180mm rear rotors offer elite stopping power and sensitivity when and where you see fit. Diamondback pulled out all the stops and outfitted the cockpit with a RACEFACE Atlas 0° stem and handlebars, a Crank Brothers Kronolog Dropper 30.9 seatpost and a WTB Silverado Race saddle.

  • Surface Contact – 29”wheels are less prone to sinking in soft material such as sand and mud due to the larger contact patch causing lower ground pressure. The longer contact patch increases cornering and straight line traction.

  • Taller Riders – 29" bikes tend to offer taller riders a more “natural” frame geometry.

  • Tire Clearance – with more tire choices than any platform, the 29”wheel easily accommodates off road as well as commuting tires.
  • Angle of Attack – Larger wheels decrease your angle of attack by allowing you to roll over obstacles easier and faster. Bigger wheel = smaller obstacle.
  • Momentum – A larger wheel enables one to carry momentum easier though obstacles.
  • Stability – The relative position of the bottom bracket/cranks to the axles in the wheels also means that your relative center of gravity is lower. This results in a feeling of riding “in” the bike rather than on top of it.
