I've had the same set of nuts for the last 19 years. I've had to leave a few over the years when I get shut down on a trad climb and rap off.. I never thought I'd need a new set of nuts until I lead a crack using my buds rack. He had doubles of these dmm alloy offsets and I place four doc them in a single pitch. They've seemed to fit the contours of the cracks where I've recently climbed..mcDowells in Phx, J tree, Red rocks, Tahquitz, and Toulumne Meadows. I love these offsets. They compliment your standard nuts.
These are my favorite piece for banged out pin scars that used to take 1/2" pins and now take these without issue. Certainly make many an aid pitch fly by way faster than without them. My first aid trip to Zion I had only 1 offset (an old HB) and wished I had many more. Lesson learned. I now have 2 sets and my life is easier.
I just placed my first one of these! I was about to place a cam, because I wasn't feeling super comfortable with my other set of stoppers, but then I decided to give these new guys a whirl. As it turns out, the number 5 fit the crack perfectly and felt really secure. Looking forward to using these more!
After getting these offsets, I hardly ever place my regular DMM Wallnuts anymore. For flaring cracks, they are simply the best, and as for placing them in general, they seem to seat better than the Wallnuts do, simply due to their irregular shape. Love em!
I am curious as to why no other company offers offset stoppers?
I have been using these as my primary set of stoppers at Jtree for several seasons so far and could not be happier. They really come into their own on flared crack placements. Curved stoppers like BD's and Wallnuts are also good for an all purpose set of nuts, its really a matter of preference.
Great addition to any rack where flaring cracks are common. I bought these for a trip to J Tree and had them with me on every pitch. Many positions to choose from due to the creative design. Placements can be bomber where stoppers might be less than ideal. They will always be on my rack!
Buy these, they work better than almost any nut out there and for aid climbing they are almost a necessity. Get either the DMM brass offsets to cover the lower sizer or the Black Diamond alloy offsets that cover about the same range. They fit in some awkward spots that no other nut will.
Took these nuts out to J-Tree and instantly fell in love. They seem to magically find bomber constrictions in the undulating quartz monzonite that can be sometimes tricky to protect. Thinking about picking up a second set or at least the smallest 3 out of the 5 in this set.
These place like no other stopper. They always feel solid and fit into some odd placements to give a boost confidence. Buy the set and you may find yourself, like me, leaving that old BD set on the ground. Check out the DMM Peenuts set for the small stuff.
I climb in Yosemite a lot and I find myself placing these more than any other nut. I usually carry some BD stoppers but I am considering stopping because these fit way better in Yosemite cracks. If you climb in the valley these are a must have.
