The Sentinel HMS Screwgate Carabiner from DMM is lightweight and versatile. The kink in the spine has real functional advantages. For a start it allows for a bigger gate opening and makes it easier to handle. The shape also encourages the biner to stay correctly aligned on your harness belay loop.

I have one of these that I've used for various things, including belaying and for the end of my PAS sling, and it works well, but I prefer something slightly larger for belaying with. It also works well with a Munter on small cords, but is probably a bit small for anything over 9mm or so (although it is quite good for a self rescue biner for use with PMMO hitches tied with cordalette and the like). Since I upgraded all my rigging biners to Shadow lockers, it now lives on the rope end of a locking draw, which it also works well for. It does have the sexy feel typical of all DMM biners.
[Screw-gate version] DMM makes the highest build quality biners in my opinion.
This particular locker is like heavenly. Its super light. Its a clever shape for belaying that does a good job staying positioned. Its also surprisingly easy to work given its small size. Little extra beefyness in the strength ratings, as most DMM biners have.
All this makes it a great alpine locker. HMS compatible, light enough to use as just-a-locker, strong enough to not worry about, generous enough to munter with, easy enough to handle with gloves.
If I could start over on my locker collection I would just have a bunch of these, a pair of DMM Big Boas, and one Attache.
I love DMM biners. Honestly I think they are the best on the market and this is no exception. I got it for anchoring in at chains and during climbs like multi-pitches. Phenomenal. The smaller I-Beam construction is awesome because it fits anywhere. It's lightweight but honestly that hasn't really affected me because I don't exactly climb Half-Dome on the weekends or anything like that. And it's DMM. They make awesome quality stuff in Britain. I highly suggest this one to anyone considering it. Well worth the bucks.
I got the screw lock version of this carabiner. First of all the screw lock mechanism on this biner is already my favorite... It's such a smooth action and when tightened is super secure. The shape is the main thing that got me hooked on this. It works perfectly for munter and clove hitches. Because of the design, this biner is super lightweight and thin yet a super strong biner.
Pros: Thin yet Strong Shape, Gate, Screwlock, Light, Overall Design
Recommended. Buy it.
this is an awesome hms carabiner- i have it exclusively for my petzl reverso3 and it's a perfect compact size-
the gate action is solid and the screw lock is smooth-
the picture needs to be updated- what i received has a keylock nose which is also a bonus-
i plan on getting at least one more, i hope it's not true that this item is permanently out of stock-
It just feels good in your hand. I've been using it as a belay biner and even though it's on the small side for that, I like it. It's light and my grigri doesn't flop around as much as it does on other lockers.
Got these to hang up a hammock, slightly overkill but they work great.
