You spend hundred and hundreds of dollars to race long course triathlons -- sometimes traveling halfway around the world to toe the start line. You want the best equipment out there, and you want it specifically designed for triathlon, not bike racing. DMT has taken the renowned fit and comfort of its road shoes and parlayed it into a triathlon shoe sure to turn a few heads. And, it just might shave a few seconds off your transition times.
To begin with, the Scorpius were constructed on a full carbon sole. While many tri-specific shoes rely upon a fiberglass infused sole, the Scorpius uses the same sole found in DMT's road specific Vega. This full carbon sole is not only lightweight, which decreases rotational mass, it is also stiffer than a fiberglass sole. This optimizes power transfer to the pedals so that every watt you produce goes exactly where you need it.
Although triathletes want a cycling shoe that performs as well as the shoes that professional cyclists wear, they also want a shoe that will help them in the fourth discipline of triathlon. The fourth discipline? Yes, the transition. The fastest triathletes in the world glide in and out of T1 and T2 as if they practice in their sleep. And while mental imagery practice definitely helps, nothing takes the place of gear that helps you move smoothly. To this end, DMT designed the Scorpius with a micro fiber and nylon mesh upper. Because so many triathletes ride without shoes, it is important that the uppers not only fit like gloves, without hotspots and friction, but also vent well. As you transition from the swim to the bike, your feet are damp, and allowing them to breathe in your shoes is paramount in the war against blisters. The ultra-thin micro fiber and mesh uppers are supportive while remaining lightweight.
Finally, there is not a triathlete out there who relishes the thought of adjusting ratcheting straps while they are steering their bike onto the course. DMT used the BOA closure system on the Scorpius. But, unlike other shoes that require two BOAs, the Scorpius uses one closure that locks down a single cable that crisscrosses the top of the shoe. It is easily adjustable on-the-fly. This system works in conjunction with a heat moldable insole to cradle your foot for optimal support no matter how long the bike leg. Additionally, a large heel loop assists in quickly pulling your foot into the shoe. An interchangeable heel stud reduces friction during transitions as your shoes will be swinging from your pedals.
The DMT Scorpius Tri Shoes are available in whole sizes from 41.0 to 47.0 and in the color White/black/yellow.
