Doel Fin Davis Instruments Doel-Fin Hydrofoil -
The original hydrofoil, Doel-Fin was developed by an aeronautical engineer to improve overall performance on all boats with outboard or outdrive power units. It produces a more stable ride, consistent planing at lower rpm, steadier turns, increased speed and lower bow rise – all while improving fuel efficiency up to 30%. Constructed of guaranteed-unbreakable, high-strength plastic, each foil flexes independently to absorb shock and enhance performance.

Great product

I have the Doel Fin installed on a 15hp Yamaha 4 stroke (4 strokes are heavy) for my 14 ft. jon boat and it is the perfect accessory. The bow never rises, even at 1/4-1/2 throttle. Twist the throttle and the boat is instantly on plane. Turns are very smooth even at full throttle. I have no speed indicator but, the way this boat scoots, I couldn't have lost much if any. I wish I'd had one of these 20 years ago. You will be happy with this one.

I bought this item to my 1995 Johnson unbelivable performance in top speed and low rev planning.
I definitely advice this item comparing expensive fortune spending rivals. It does the job for such a small money. I asked my self why I was so stupid didn't fix it 10 years ago and save money and gasoline....

Negative Reviews:

Bitter disappointment

Pro: The Installation: The installation of the fin was easy and might have taken about 15 minutes from getting my tools out to putting them up. Its design is almost idiot proof, if you want to make it real easy, take your prop off. I didn’t. Con: Wow unlike everyone else’s review, this was a bitter disappointed , it caviated my motor so bad it stalled it out on take off, you have to have the motor completely down for it to work, I did this before installing the fin so installing it was a waste of time. At wide open throttle, it’s like driving your truck with the parking brake on. Handing and steering is dumbed down to where the boat is a slug. It does let you create fewer wakes at idle, but so does just driving slower. So as soon as I had my trial runs with this, I went back to the boat ramp and uninstalled the fin at the boat ramp, then went back out. I wouldn’t say I hate the product I’m just disappointed. I think it would work on a pontoon boat really well, on a duck/crappie boat it didn’t . So now I have four holes in my caviation plate and will be filling them with JB Weld on a pristine boat, a bitter disappointment. My boat G3 1652, 40 HP Yamaha, 2-stroke, with Beavertail Floatation Pods installed.

Unclear Description

I have heard great things about this product and bought one for my boat. Unfortunately, Davis Instruments quit making the adapter plate for the Volvo Outdrives and this product will not work on a Volvo Outdrive. Cabela's doesn't say that anywhere on the website either. The packaging that the product comes in even says that an adapter plate is available, but when you I tried to order one, the company rep said they discontinued making them.
