Dogtra 2500 Train And Beep Dog Trainer Reviews:

Outstanding collar for strong headed Weimaraners!

I've got a ~14 month old Weimaraner and we went with the Dogtra 2500 T&B collar. My Weim is primarily going to be an upland dog, so it might be different for a waterfowl retriever, but so far I've yet to find anything I don't like about this collar. I really like the tone settings on the this one. It's got two different tone types - nice feature, but not sure how handy it is yet since we've pretty much only stuck with one of the sounds (the higher pitched one). It can be used as a standard locator (tap the button to locate your dog when he's out of sight), it can be set to always emit a tone until the dog stops moving (ostensibly stopped because he's pointing, but perhaps also because something's wrong I suppose), or it can be set to emit a tone only when the dog has stopped (again for the same reasons). And the thing is wicked loud. I bet you could hear it from the moon. (Pro tip: don't test the tone in a car while driving down the road - It's painfully loud.) The nick settings are really good, too - goes from 1-127. If your dog needs something more than level 127, you might have an issue. :) It seems to be fairly comfortable for the dog, too. My Weim has worn it for 3 hours at a pop without trying to fiddle with it. Seems to have a long battery life, too. I forgot to charge it between field trips and it was fine. And it's weatherproof and waterproof. The dog has been in several ponds with this collar and it keeps working like a charm. It says it's got a range of 1 mile, but I've not yet tested that since I like to keep my pooch within 25 yards or so in order to keep him from flushing birds too far out. And the carry case is made from sturdy plastic - I've never used the case for the collar (it's either on the dog, in my field bag, or in a cabinet at home), but I always appreciate companies who go to the trouble of making sure their product has a safe place to rest if needed (and helps keep it more secure during shipping). It's not the cheapest one you can find, but I absolutely wanted to go for quality on this purchase since this is my first bird dog - if I'm spending all this money on him and the training, seems silly to skimp out on a good e-collar for the field. I also saved quite a few shekels by buying at Cabela's where I could use some of my existing Club points. No buyer's remorse at all. I've been recommending this collar to all my friends, too.

Top Notch

This is the best dog collar I've ever had the opportunity to use. As a pheasant guide in South Dakota, it has stood up to the elements, day in and day out, through heavy use... hot days, freezing cold days, and 101% waterproof. The beep tone can be heard from a great distance away, even with shotgun riddled eardrums.. and is invaluable in corn fields. This allows you to instantly locate your dog without question, which the vibrate page collars certainly can NOT do. The beep page can teach the dog to check back with you in low visibility situations. I personally do not use the constant beep pointer settings mode with labs, only the manual push button for beep page. Good signal range, though sometimes you do need to hold the controller above your head for maximum effectiveness. Great buy, worth the money.. can't say enough.

Dogtra 2500

Excellent product. Bought last November after old e-collar died during ND pheasants. Can easily activate and hear collar at least 200 yards in heavily wooded areas and 400 yds in open ground. It survived one season of hunting wood duck in swamps, Used to snake break my GSP and numerous training sessions so far. Only wish they also made a Train & Beep with NCP.

Outstanding product

What a positive influence this collar has been on my 8 month old German Shorthair. I wish it had come with a dvd or better training instructions - but friends and the internet helped get my dog on the path to obedience.
