I used these hooks last year both on rod and reel and for setlines targeting flathead catfish. I set one trotline with these hooks and large circle hooks alternated each dropper, and they caught as many fish as the more expensive circle hooks. I caught fish up to 43 pounds on them and never had one bent. The large gap also makes hooking the big live bait I use easier than the smaller gap on most circle hooks. I recommend them for any catfishing use needing a hook of this size except for slipfloat, limbline, or bankpole sets. I feel that my odds are better using circle hooks in a situation where the fish will be coming up from below the bait and likely turning immediately to return to the depths, allowing the circle hook to embed in the corner of the mouth.
