Positive Reviews:

I purchased this backpack for an upcoming dive trip to the Florida Keys. I wanted a lightweight carry on bag that was easy to manage while I hauled my big roller bag full of dive gear. This bag has a spacious lockable main compartment that makes packing a breeze. I did a trial packing and packed 6 days worth of clothes, a small bag for my two cameras, dive computer, batteries, and chargers, a small bag for make-up, first aid kit and I also packed my flip flops and hat. The bag has a large mesh zippered pocket on the inside of the lid, and I had room to pack more if needed. There is a large back pocket that is padded and lockable for your computer or other items. I packed my day bag in here. The front has another zippered pocket that I packed a lightweight sweater in, and there is a third smaller pocket that my 24 oz stainless steel water bottle fit in. The padded backpack straps are stowed inside slots on the back of the bag so they won't get caught on stuff in the overhead bin. The sternum strap is adjustable for comfort and there are elastic strap keepers on the compression straps -- no flapping straps. There is a shrill emergence whistle on the sternum strap. I gave 4 starts for comfort because the 2 handles are wimpy and thin. They hurt my hand when carrying the bag. They need to be padded and a third added to the bottom of the bag. It has a sturdy attachment for a shoulder strap (not included), but I found it very uncomfortable to carry this way. While most bags would probably be the same, this one was also awkward. These are improvements that Eagle Creek hopefully will add later, but I am still happy with this bag. The bag weighs 1 lb 15 oz empty and after I had it packed, it weighed 11 lbs 7 oz. My 20 inch roller bag packed with the same items weighed 21 lbs 2 oz with room for maybe a few pairs of socks. That is a big difference when you consider how much walking with luggage you do while traveling. I walked around my house and yard and found this bag to be easy to carry and comfortable. I am an averaged size older woman and had no problems carrying it. The bag is backed by Eagle Creek's Lifetime Warranty.

Good Travel Pack

I travel by air and rental car for work three days a week, and had been using a small duffle bag, and either a briefcase or small backpack. I wanted to combine the two luggage pieces into one carry-on backpack, so I only had one bag to keep track of.

I did a fair amount of research and picked out another pack more oriented towards dayhiking. Santa Claus knew better though, and got me the Digihauler Daypack for Christmas. I have to say I'm very pleased with it, probably more than I would have been with the pack I had picked out.

I can easily carry three changes of casual clothes(rolled up to take minimum space), a laptop and cords, toiletries, a book, and have room left over if I need something extra along. The front opens fully, for easy loading and there are no dividers to compromise the space available. The zippered laptop pocket is large, and will hold a laptop far larger than mine.

The pack is light, soft sided, and easily fits into an overhead compartment. But even better, as far as I'm concerned, it easily fits under the seat in front of me on the airplane, at least for window and center seats. I'm paranoid about leaving my bag on the plane, and I really like having my bag where I can see it, and get stuff out of it.

The pack is fairly comfortable to carry, if you take the time to adjust the shoulder straps and sternum straps appropriately. I'd happily walk a mile with it fully loaded (about 20 pounds) , less happily for 5 miles, and probably pretty unhappily up Mount Whitney. For its intended use, though, I think its fine. My only real complaint is that the waist belt could be wider. Its pretty skinny.

I've used the pack for about 5 weeks now, and compared to what I see others struggling with, I'm well pleased with my carry-on system. Those stiff, wheeled carry-on bags weigh a ton, and don't have near as much usable space.

My New Go-To for Carry-On

Used this as my sole bag for a 2 week overseas trip. No hassles as a carry-on, although it is at the very max of size limits. I unclipped the chest strap (really helps when stuffed full) at a domestic check-in, so as not to draw undue attention to its "backpack-ness". Pretty comfy to wear, but like most simple packs, can get hot on the back after extended periods. I used packing cubes for first time and with 2 of them (holding 7 t-shirts, 2 pairs long pants and various electronic bits and pieces), I still had around 50% of the bag free for other stuff.

I'd definitely recommend cubes, as the bag is not rigid, which helps it's weight and compression when stowing overhead (it has comp straps, too). But it means if you stuff it without, you're gonna end up with more of a duffle than a rectangular shape.

Side zip pocket for tablet or PC is useful. Backpack straps and waist straps work fine and can be tucked into a pocket and clipped to each other for check-in (which I chose to do one one leg, as had to check my gfriend's bag anyway). Despite the light and soft fabric, it survived with no damage whatsoever. Sturdy side handle works great and looks like it'll last, too.

The tan color is easily identified, but not flashy and didn't get dirty at all on my trip. Also the zippers open up along the full length for easy packing/unpacking. Don't see myself checking a bag again. Highly recommend.

What I wanted

Think the bag is great does what it advertises. The sleeve for the laptop is big, wish it was bigger, to store the Eagle Creek Dress clothes Storage packet system(when not in use). I bought the full Cube, and packet system to use with this bag. Have used it for small stuff, but have not truly tested it for travel.

on the road again - for a quick one

Use on a road trip to avoid that extra baggage fee.

Great for a two day road trip.

Christopher Columbus could've used one of these.

Needed to come with a matching should strap - don't make me buy it as an extra item!

Neutral Reviews:

Shoulder straps a bit thin if heavy

Easy to pack a lot but then shoulder straps are too thin to be comfortable.
Great for airplane carry-on and carrying bulky items.
Gold color looks sharp and recognizable among all the black bags.
