Easily cut off

Works good for domestic flights but international airports will cut it off in a heart beat (I have lost several going through Johannesburg Airport.) Also, the TSA doesn't respect the TSA approved locks and will cut them off when they are feeling lazy (thanks BWI).
I use it for securing luggage before and after flying since the screeners have no problem removing it (permanently).

So far so good.

I look forward to a trip in the near future where I plan on using this product. It is easy to change the combination code and holds up to wear and tear, but I will have a better idea when I return from my trip. I plan on writing a more complete review at that time.

Perfect for travelling

This lock is a must-have. It's inexpensive, TSA friendly, and secures the contents of my North Face Base Camp Duffel bag when I'm travelling.

Used only once so far, had a problem to set up combination (use YouTube).

Negative Reviews:

Lousy lock. Buy another brand.

I give this one star only because it's not an option to give zero stars. I buy this type of lock all the time for clients to secure their equipment, and hand over the equipment in a locked bag. They keep the lock, so I buy A LOT of locks. This was the first time buying the Eagle Creek brand. I bought 2 and neither one of them set properly. Now I can't open or close either one. I had to go out and buy new ones to be able to travel. . .a different brand of course. Eagle Creek does not stand behind their product either. When I called them at one time I was told to send the locks back and they would open them there. I was too busy traveling to do so at the time. Now they tell me they can't be reset and I'm out of luck. HORRIBLE customer service. Money thrown down the drain. DO NOT BUY.

I really want to say how awesome this is, and how much I love it, but frankly, it is the first Eagle Creek product that I have purchased where I am disappointed and will return it. It is near impossible to figure out how to set it, and once I did, it will not unlock. Someone far smarter than I might have better luck, but it was not easy -- even after reading the directions and watching the YouTube video. I was not expecting the lock to be much more than a deterrent, but considering how difficult it is to set and then unlock, it is not worth the money or the frustration. Sadly, I will be returning it.

Good product if only they worked. . .

These locks are reasonably priced and appealing in that one can now lock luggage if using the TSA approved products. However, it was impossible to reset the locks from preset manufacturer's combination by using the instructions provided. After spending (way too) much time trying to figure out alternatives, I gave up.

Like the other reviewer, I was unable to open the lock from the store by inputting the factory default combination. I leave for Ecuador this evening, so this is just one more thing I have to worry about now. Really frustrating. I wish I saw these reviews before purchasing.

Not secure, can be opened in 2 seconds

This lock is completely useless. The mechanism which allows TSA to open the lock, allows anybody to just open the lock by twisting the shackle against the body of the lock and popping the lock open.
Schaffner at REI on 02/02/2012
Completely disfunctional. We found it impossible (3 college educated adults) to set the combination. A last minute purchase for a big trip that left us unsecured.

Piece of JUNK! Broke first use.

Great Lock But TSA-Not

I really loved this lock and found it quite useful for traveling with my luggage. However, on my recent trip from SEA->ABQ, TSA ripped off the lock and just left a notice in my baggage.

Certainly, it has the TSA logo so that TSA agents can open it up without breaking it, but I think TSA is just getting lazy and has no accountability.

Bottomline: this is a great lock, but don't expect TSA to respect its so-called compliance. You may lose yours like I did.
RB_Seattle at REI on 12/12/2010

"Light" is right

It's very, very lightweight. I could probably break it with my hand - but I haven't tested it yet. However, it suits our needs, so be it. If someone really wants in your luggage, no lock will prevent them.
