Positive Reviews:

For me, probably the perfect bag!

Well, this bag is fantastic! I was looking for something to hold a bunch of gear for a bunch of different kinds of trips and this does it. Not only does it hold all the gear I need, but it does it with lots of room to spare. Just excellent.

As an example of what it easily holds, I took a mountaineering trip. This bag held:

*Double-plastic mountaineering boots (these are huge normally, but I wear a size 13 so even bigger than most!)

*75cm Ice Axe (longest standard sized ice axe; I'm tall)

*2 x ice climbing axes

*2 x trekking poles

*Mountain Hardwear Absolute Zero Down Parka (to be fair, this was in a stuff sack while in my luggage)

*Several large pairs of gloves (BD Guide Gloves, Hestra Heli Mitts, etc.)

*climbing helmet

*crampons

That's all the large and oddly-shaped things, so those plus all the other gear (thick socks, several lighter jackets/hardshell, base layers, etc. etc.). It held all this, plus workout clothes, and daily clothes. I'm used to splitting things between my checked bag and my carry on, but this time my carry on was lonely. I'm confident that if I actually used the space extender on the bag, I could get a two-person tent and compressed sleeping bag in there!

That's just on a mountaineering trip. It successfully holds everything for cycling trips as well, such as my helmet, gear, shoes, etc.

But the real gem is that it holds everything so comfortably. Very sturdy and large wheels that seem to be fairly all-terrain (I've rolled it across bumpy dirt/grass). It's a really sturdy and well thought out bag. Once I get everything in, the net/catcher thing inside the bag cinches down on top of the stuff so I can open the bag without everything falling out. The coat holder is an excellent idea as well. I get to the airport and put my coat on top of the Tarmac 28 until it's checked.

I have a long stride so I'm used to roller bags hitting my heels as I walk with them. This is the only one I've used without that problem.

Can't think of anything else. Just superbly organized with the inside and outside pockets, coat hanger, etc. My favorite bag and I can't imagine spending this kind of money on something that wasn't perfect.

Cons: The bottle opener doesn't work that well. I have one of those Nite Ize carabiner bottle openers that I keep in my various pieces of luggage anyways, so no big deal. I think I would have preferred the addition of a lanyard clip for keys. Normally as soon as I lock up at the house I put my keys on my checked bag lanyard so I don't lose them. This bottle opener/key lanyard one is a little weird in that it kind of slides into a loop in a pocket on the bag instead of clipping in. Not super worried, but if I go travel abroad for weeks, I want to be 100% sure I don't lose my house/car keys somewhere along the way and this system doesn't give me that confidence. Thus, I use one of those Nite Ize locking s-biners for my keys and the bottle opener for the bottles. You can see what I mean if you look at the detail shot of the Tarmac 28 that includes the bottle opener/lanyard. It would probably be fine, but I'm not taking the risk.

Great piece of luggage, our second one

Own three other pieces of Eagle Creek Tarmac luggage. 22 25 and now two 28 inch cases. The light weight allows you to pack loads of clothing gear or whatever and stay under airline weight limits. Huge when you're traveling internationally!

Eagle Creek rocks!

Great value for money. I have a few other Eagle Creek bags but this one's size is good for a weeks vacation or business trip.

I would buy this product again and again

Used it on vacation both on land and by cruise

Good luggage, bad wheels

Overall quality of bag is good, but the wheels were too brittle. They were cracked and broken by the airline, but they should have been better designed.

I had hoped Eagle Creek cust service would replace for free, but they wanted me to ship back the whole suitcase, which would cost more than the new wheels if ordered seperately. I ended up buying new wheels from Eagle Creek since no one else makes the size needed. Also, they charged me as much for shipping and handling as the price of the wheels!
