Try it for yourself

I'm not sure about a 1-star rating -- if it doesn't fit you, maybe it's not the right coat for you, but this jacket is pretty sweet for this price and definitely worth checking out.

I've only owned it for about a month but it's been great in that time. The fit is perfect for me (5'10" 175lbs) but I agree it runs small - I chose a large to ensure I have a bit of room for a layer underneath. The insulation is great for me but I don't need a lot. This will keep me warm down to the -10F range, no problem.

My complaint is that the attachment points for the liner in the wrist area tend to irritate my wrist. I wish this was placed differently. Also, some more information on the System3 waterproof/breathable would be appreciated - I haven't found anything comparing it to eVent or GoreTex, though in my initial testing it seems to perform well. We'll see how it holds up over time -- my last jacket was a EMS with GoreTex XCR and that was amazing for nearly 8 years.

I would love to see wrist gaiters built into the liner. Also, it would be great if the liner and shell were individually packable for stowing - sure, you can just shove them in your pack, but it's really nice for it to be its own little package.

Excellent produtct

I got this jacket for my son who spends a lot of time outdoors in all kinds of weather. He wore it to NYC on a very cold Christmas Eve. He told me the next day that he was the only one in his party who was comfortable walking the streets of NY. I'm sure he will appreciate it even more when he goes hiking this Winter. A very fine product. We were both more than satisfied. I would be happy to recommend this to anyone who appreciates being warm and comfortable.

Tight fit

I wish this jacket had more room in the chest for layering because it's not all that warm. As with most 3-in-1 jackets the hand-warmer pockets aren't very warm because the shell has no insulation. Top of the line construction with thoughtful details.

NEEDED it this winter!

This jacket really keeps you warm for being light in weight. It also fits very well, and isn't bulky anywhere. It has come in really handy in this very cold and snowy winter!

Great Jacket - keeps me warm and dry!

I use the product daily in Northern Vermont. Because of its different pieces, it's useful from fall to spring.

Very nice

I love this jacket. I fits like it was custom tailored for me. I'm 6'1" and 170 lbs.

Negative Reviews:

Warm, Dry, and Constrained!

I purchased this coat for everyday winter wear. I liked the appearance and felt the 3-in-1 would be good for unpredictable weather (and maybe stretch its usefulness into early spring). I've worn the coat in blustery 20 degree weather, high 40s, and in a late fall downpour. It performed quite well. I was warm (with a light fleece underneath). That said I suspect a t-shirt or button-down long sleeve wouldn't be enough in the coldest weather. During an unfortunate encounter with horizontal rain I stayed very dry (water just beaded off). Based on its performance I'd rate it five star.

Unfortunately, the sizing is way off. I am 5-11 and 160 pounds (slim build). Every other coat I've purchased has been a generic "medium". The original medium size coat I ordered online was extremely restrictive across the torso through the arms. I felt like I was wearing a child's jacket. I took it back to the store to exchange thinking maybe I got a bad size. Not only were the other medium's just as bad but the *large* also fit poorly! I probably should have purchased something else, but I decided to go with the x-large. It fits through the upper torso/arms (barely), but leaves an extra amount of material bulging around when I sit.

I don't know who this jacket would fit. A moderately muscular guy would feel very constrained even in an x-large. I can't see this being a particularly good coat for winter sports (despite the wet\cold protection) because its so freaking tight. Yeah, you can unzip the parts of the coat to let it "breath" but that doesn't help the tightness.

I can't honestly recommend this coat.
