My favorite pants. Currently wearing!
I. Love. These pants.
I'm currently traveling all around the US by train while working on a new web development project. I'm living out of a backpack, and so spent a good while scouring the Internet for clothes that wouldn't be out-of-place in any situation while still being space-efficient and good for hiking and backpacking — if any such clothes even existed!
I ordered a pair of these pants, and immediately ordered a second pair upon the arrival of the first, and these are the only two pairs of pants I've taken with me (one black, one "pelican"). They're super comfortable, lightweight, versatile, durable, and fit me perfectly. I've worn them both as shorts and as long pants, to bars in New Orleans and to business in San Francisco, while hiking along trails and while sleeping on the train. They're so breathable that I don't have any qualms about wearing them for multiple days at a time.
And there are so many great little design details too. I love the layout of the pockets, which are perfect for things like phones and thin wallets, and the fact that you can unzip up the pant legs to "flare" the cuffs (not that I would very often because it looks silly, but it's very useful for when comfort's more important than looks).
The only thing I would change about these pants — and the only reason I took off a star — is I wish the "pelican" color was a bit darker, as other reviewers have noted. Just about anyone who orders "pelican" is going to be expecting khaki, but the color's much closer to an off-white or light beige.
Liked them more than I thought I would
I got these pants to replace an old pair of North Face convertible pants that finally wore out after 7 years of use. I was disappointed initially that the fabric on these (and the new NF version) were lighter and seemed less rugged than my old pair. I got these pants on sale and have been pleasantly surprised by how well built they are and how they seem like like they will hold up. I do however wish that the zippers for the legs were color coded instead of inscribed with the (R and L)....not a big deal, but it would be nice. I have yet to try them out on the trail/travels, so we'll see how they hold up.
Wondeful product !
This is the second pair of EMS Trailhead pants I bought for my husband. He loved the first pair so much and wears them all the time. They look incredible on him, no bunches or sags anywhere. They accommodate his bending and stay with him when he stands up. They are soft and wash incredibly well, barely damp out of the wash! I deceided to stick with EMS brand zip-off pants for our upcoming hiking trip. I'm sure they'll pass with flying colors ! Buy these pants !
Another great EMS product to add to the collection. I like to wear these to work, since I move around all day and jeans are to constrictive, these have a nice light feel, and I love the xtra pockets for my Leatherman and phone. Don't even notice the zip off seam feeling against my legs the way I do with other brands of convertable pants. The one change I would make is a shorter inseam as I like my shorts a little shorter.
Great pants, better shorts
First, 12 inch inseam for the shorts. Great for long legs. Only pair of conversion pants I could find with decent short inseam (I wear 34 or 36 inseam pants regular, 9 inch shorts don't work). Good quality over all and still lightweight. Any chance of a 33" waist size (long inseam).
very nice pants
I bought 1 pair of mens and 1 pair of women's because they didn't have black in women's sizes. I then purchased another men's pair in tall as a gift for my boyfriend's birthday because I thought he'd love them.
Great pair of pants
Pants are true to size. Unfortunately the 10" inseam on the short conversion is too long causing zipper enclosure to rub uncomfortably on knee caps. 8" inseam would be perfect.
Used for trip to China where we were limited on luggage. Easy to wash out by hand and dry overnight. Good for cool days and hot days.
Good for camping trips and other travel
I like them so much, that I got a second pair
I would buy this product again
Would be nice if they came with a belt
