VERY interesting and well designed
EMS Men's Vector Power Stretch Full-Zip Hoodie
i got mine in the color they call ebony but, as someone has said, it's really a dark gray or graphite...I think the color is fine.
this hood? wow it really covers my head and works well under a cap or hat even a construction hard hat... nice full design. most hoods are half hoods at best and you need something extra. not this one.
I have worn it comfortably in 20F air temps with a under layer wicking shirt in the wind. probably a wind chill of 15F... was comfortable enough to work without a jacket as long as I kept at it. any standing around you'd want an overcoat to cut the wind a bit.
1 - make the pocket (chest larger) I barely holds my cell... i'm def a pocket freak. not too many work clothing items have enough pockets.
2 - offer a thicker version... on the really colder days a heavier grade would be highly advantageous. style is close fit for a medium built tall guy like myself. I think the product fits the target of a colder weather hoodie for an active person.
if this was heavier, or with some insulation in it, I might order the lime yellow for a HIVIS safety vest replacement. nice product and worth what EMS charges. i'd order a larger size if I used it that way. the fit is close.
shipping btw was very prompt.
nice company to work with in my experience.
3 - add on suggestion; a side deep thin pocket at both sides of the waist just where your hands fall normally. use them to hold a single water bottle would be great. most jackets don't have pockets deep enough to keep a poly bottle in without the darn things slipping out and if the bottle rode at waist/belt height on your sides you could work with it and it wouldn't be in the way in front of you. I haven't seen this implemented on work jackets and don't know why not. most everyone carries water to drink these days. even a small slim thermos of hot java would fit there. some inner reinforcement from the shoulder area to carry the load/weight and spread it a bit would be needed I guess.
so that's my read of this hoodie.
overall I gave it 5 stars.
My favorite second layer
I work out doors as a builder in Vermont, but sometimes I am inside too. As a second layer over a wicking Tshirt that is light but warm and able to be opened all the way for venting it is versatile and perfect for my needs. It fits snugly, but the stretch allows easy movement with or without added layers. When indoors it is like wearing a warm shirt that can be opened all the way or taken off easily with the full zip if it is too warm. The hood works well on its own in a pinch or for worse conditions over a knit cap. I will buy a second when I see it on sale again and can apply a coupon as well as I did the first time, but can't seem to bring myself to spending the asking price. I don't think it is going to wear out too fast and it dries so easily after washing that I don't need a second one. It is clean and wearable in about a half hour.
Worth every penny
Love Vector Power Stretch apparel because it WORKS! Here's what I mean, I snowboard and in sub-zero weather power stretch keeps me warm when starting the first few runs. As I fire-up the engine I don't get too hot because it breathes so well. It actually regulates my core temp so I'm comfortable all day long, especially on powder days ;-) Also, the stretch moves with you not against you so you forget you have it on. This is the best product EMS has ever made IMO. My only compliant is Ebony isn't Ebony; it's ash grey. I wish they offered it in more colors like brown, burgundy, dark orange, forest green, etc. The color selection is wack (royal blue, glow in the dark yellow/green, ash grey and bright hunter orange). I purchased the blue and ash grey and they're worth every penny.
This hoodie is awesome. It's really warm, very yellow (with a touch of green) and it's as flexible and stretchy as they claim. The hood itself was a little bit of a surprise. When zipped up all the way, the hood protects all the way over my chin and pretty far down over my forehead. This sounds a little extreme but during a recent day of wind and temperatures hovering around zero, it was nice to have. The jacket wicks away sweat pretty well too. It's got those thumb holes too, which adds a touch more warmth. All that and you can wear it over regular street clothes and it looks pretty stylish too. So whether I'm wearing it on the trail on just around the house, I'm pretty happy with it.
Absolutely outstanding product. It is really nice to see technical apparel designed for long slender bodies. It's form fitting and stays in place but moves with you during activity. The hood zips nice and tight to the neck and won't be bulky or restrictive under a jacket. Relatively stylish, good example of form follows function. Certain to be in heavy rotation through the long Maine winters.
I bought this last year the older model and it is perfect wear it as is with tshirt or under my down jacket or under my north face Nyvent shell. I washed the car in the garage minus 4 degrees wet but kept me warm have nothing bad to say about this with layers in very cold keeps me warm.
The best fleece.
EMS was dead on in the design of this product. I've been using it to replace a grid fleece sweater from the Army issued cold weather clothing system, because it has a hood and fits me SO much better.
Only gripe is that it doesn't slide very well over other layers, but that's not really anybody's fault. If it fits you, you'll enjoy it.
Love this! warm, comfortable, and good looking. Stayed warm during the Arctic vortex.
