love these shorts

I've been wearing two pair of these shorts for years and just ordered two more. They are rugged enough to hike and camp in, but 'normal' enough to wear around town (although I do live in Seattle), breathable, never feel like they are either too big or too constrictive.

I've used them for kayaking in a pinch (they actually dry pretty well), and even run an 8k in them (last minute decision) with no problem. I especially like the drawstring feature, which lets me tie them up when I don't happen to have a belt handy. awesome. Also, the extra pockets are great for traveling when you suddenly need a extra place to put boarding passes, maps, headphones, a camera ... i've even put water bottles in them.

I bought my first pair in the store, but since moving west I had to go back online to find them. My originals are fine, but I became paranoid that they might go away before I could find another pair I like as much ...

Yikes! I noticed when I ordered that in my size (32) there were only two available colors. I hope they are just popular, and temporarily sold out!

Best Cargo Shorts I Have Ever Owned

I purchased these a long time ago with no expectations. They quickly became my favorite pair of shorts. After a little over 2 years they started to wear out so I purchased 3 in different colors and donated every other pair of cargo shorts I owned. They are really breathable, which I find to be a great trait. They are also extremely comfortable and I wear them around the house everyday, as soon as I get home from work I put them on. On a recent flight my daughter spilled a glass of tomato juice on them and with little to no problem I wiped them off with water and napkins and the juice came out completely. And since they dry so fast I was able to wear them for the rest of the trip without having to wash them and without the embarrassment if having a huge stain on them. They are the best shorts I have ever purchased and I couldn't be happier with them.

Best all around shorts out there

This is the second purchase for these shorts. The last pairs were purchased over two years ago. Although the last pairs I still wear regularly they are showing there age and use. I hike, Mountain bike and kayak in these shorts, and feel comfortable going into town or doing some sight seeing in them. They hold up to the toughest use, are comfortable and loose enough to allow breathing and ventalation under warmer heavy use. I hope EMS keeps these shorts around for a while, because it's tough finding others that fit, preform, and function as these do... Give them a try you'll see...! I have recommended these to friends and they have had the same similar experiences as well

Outstanding shorts!

I love these shorts! They are comfortable, lightweight, and roomy in the legs for hiking, traveling, or just kicking back on a weekend with friends. Best shorts I've ever owned! Most men's shorts are either too long, or the lfabric is too heavy, but EMS got it right the first time with these. I'd highly recommend the dockworker cargo because of the stitching and quality of the fabric, very comfortable! The only drawback is that the dark slate grey color appears so popular that the ones in my size were sold out before I could get a pair. I'd be the first one in line if they made more! Great shorts!

Pretty good shorts...

I used these shorts all over Greece for various activities, from walking around, to climbing walls, to tripping and falling. You can use these shorts for pretty much any occasion, but I used them as casually as possible.

The one thing I find annoying about the shorts were the snaps on the side pockets - they're a bit tough to get open at times. That's the only con, if that. They came greener than I expected, but eh, they'll do.

They're not my favorite shorts, but I am warming up to them. I wouldn't mind getting them in a different color. They're a great buy for the price.

Best Shorts

These are literally the only shorts I wear; I live in them day in and day out from April-September. My oldest pairs are 3 years old and going strong. These shorts are nice enough to wear to the office with a polo, and tough enough to go hiking/camping in. I've worn them comfortably under a harness for full work days at a ropes course. The gusseted crotch helps with comfort and ease of movement on the trail and the cellphone pocket inside the right cargo pocket is a great feature- keep the phone accessible but secure and comfortably placed. EMS-please don't ever stop making these shorts!

Great fit, long lasting shorts.

I bought three pairs of these shorts six years ago and I wore them just about every day during the summer. They are only just now starting to show wear so I recently bought three more pairs of the same style and color. I was happy to find that the design, fit and quality of my new shorts is just like my 6yr old ones that I love so much. Bottom line is these shorts are a great comfortable fit and fantastic quality. Six years is more than I would ever expect an article of clothing to last especially considering how much I wore them.

Excellent fit for Active People

I am a large build person with larger legs than most people my size (waist 38, thigh 28). These may seem a little baggy for some, but they are comfortable on me. Most shorts that fit this comfortably on me will bind and tear when I make long leg extensions while climbing or jumping. These have a medium sized gusset in the crotch that helps reduce that binding. The material is 100% cotton, but the weave is tough and light weight. Most cotton shorts are heavy weave, and the light weight ones are much less durable, while these show early signs of being very durable.

Really like them!

I am a cargo shorts snob. I found these shorts in EMS and bought 2 par. Took them home and loved them so much, I went online and purchased 4 more pars. (Then went home and threw out all my old cargo shorts).

They are great with a t-shirt or a collared shirt. Fit well. Good utility. Wore them all week as a Scoutmaster at Boy Scout Camp. Now currently wearing them in my office!

Best shorts I own

These shorts are great. I bought my first pair three years ago at an EMS store in New Hampshire, and recently bought another pair online. My only complaint is that some color/size (like 36/khaki) combinations were not available for my latest purchase. And now it seems that the available sizes are even more limited. I sure hope EMS does not discontinue these great shorts.

Negative Reviews:

I thought these seemed below average in quality and durability. The stitching seemed very light duty, and there were no rivets or reinforcements in common high-stress areas (like pocket edges). I returned these to the store.

Great.. for awhile.

These shorts are incredibly comfortable, lightweight and work in a variety of situations.. I've taken them camping, ridden my bike on them, lifted weights in them, traveled in them, etc.. So useful and practical with the cargo pockets, and great snap closures.

I had a pair for years before the right cargo pocket developed a tear in which I would lose my keys. Luckily, I bought 4 pairs for use this summer, and have taken them on many trips and around my city. Unfortunately, one pair developed a hole near the button; another pair had the stitching come undone near the zipper on the crotch; and now I have a pair with the stitching coming undone on the crotch itself. EMS easily exchanged the first two pairs. I haven't inquired about this third pair.

If these shorts didn't rip so much, they would be an easy 5+ stars. Luckily, I've still had pretty good experiences in them and EMS's customer service is pretty awesome.

Really like the shorts....however

Bought the same shorts in our local store and really liked the fit but they did not ave anymore so I ordered this pair online. The pair I ordered came ripped in the inseam which was a disappointment and surprise coming from EMS, usually their quality is much better.
