Nice shelter

Just received this from REI. Great service as always and quick free delivery. I used gift cards and member rewards so I only paid $50 for this shipped. I am not sure I would spend $100 as it is too soon to really give this product proper review based on time and use.

First, REI's site is a little deceiving on this. They make it look like you have 4 configurations in the photos regardless of which size you choose. In the specs, they say the Small gets 4 poles like the large. This is not true on either case. Only the large(which on Eastons site is called medium) gets the 4 poles. They should clarify this in the photos better and the spec section. The small only gets 2 poles.

For the good part. This seems to be a solid product. This is my first EM purchase. Most of my equipment is Marmot, Kelty, and TNF. It seems made of good quaility material. Stitching should last as long as you do not abuse your equipment. Set-up was a breeze on this, only 3 minutes tops, no manual needed. Wind was minimal, but I can see where that would become an issue. If you do have wind, you will certainly need to utilize the included stakes as this thing will act like a sail!! It is lightweight which is great for packing and hiking, but no so good for the beach or a windy area. They include 5 stakes, material is OK and they will probably bend easy if driving into harder ground. I am curious how they will be in sand as I bought this for beach use. It does allow for breathability at the back sections. Although I understand using yellow for deflection rather than obsorbing sun, it is bright, so if you are hoping for a darker sheltered area inside, this may not be for you.

Finally, I am 6 feet tall. In the lower position I can sit under just fine with room to spare, but if I were to try to bring in a chair it would not work unless you are using one that sits right on the ground with minimal legs like the REI Travel Chair for instance. I will probably try that or just use a towel when at the beach. This will definitely work well for getting the little ones and pets out of direct sunlight.

Great, but easily could be better.

We bought this to provide sun protection at the beach. The initial setup was a nightmare because of a stiff breeze and terrible directions. After the first attempt, however, the setup becomes very simple. The corner/edge stakes included with the kit are totally inappropriate for use on the beach: buy your own and get long ones. Once set up, we found the screen to be stable in a mild breeze, but too warm at the back end of the shelter. The design would benefit from some Velcro or zipper vents. With even a small effort, the setup directions could be greatly improved.

Works as needed.

I have use in the park for picnics, motorcycle touring as shade as well as tent, dew shield.

Probably nice in no wind

This looks to be a great sun shade, sets up easily and the "small" one is large enough for two people to sit under. However, we took it out on a day with minimal wind, and it acted like a sail. Not usable with any wind - but would probably be really nice on a hot, still day.
