Edelrid Eddy Device Review:

Great for solo, but watchout repelling

I fell 20 feet and broke my ankle while repelling with this device. If you use this device, make sure the keep a gloved hand on the free end of the rope while lowering. While repelling with my free rope in a backpack, I found a not-so-sweet spot using the lowering lever on the Eddy Belay and the rope ran free. I fell about 20 feet before the device stopped my free-fall. This is great for solo TR and leading, but a bad choice for lowering anybody. It does not result in a slow easy descent in my experience. I still give it a good rating because I misused the device by removing my hand from the free end of the rope. I write this is hopes that no one repeats my mistake.
