Touring is generally peaceful and relaxing, but there are many moments when you find yourself huffing up steep, snowy ridges, and the Eider Men's Blow Alpha Insulated Jacket keeps you comfortable throughout those moments. Polartec Alpha synthetic insulation offers a rare combination of lightweight warmth and true breathability in a lofty style that looks like down. Since it's synthetic, it retains its warmth even when wet. The durable Pertex shell keeps the jacket lightweight while adding durability, and a DWR coating sheds light snow and icicle drips.
The Blow Alpha compresses into its own chest pocket so you don't have to sacrifice warmth for space on your next ski trip. Eider eliminates the necessity of drawcords in its fixed hood by putting Lycra around the edge that helps the hood seal around your face comfortably. Eider also placed Lycra on the cuffs for a non-bulky and comfortable way to block out the bad weather without hook-and-loop straps. And a drawcord at the hem tightens the jacket so it doesn't ride up while you ski.
At first glance this jacket looks like a lightweight windbreaker that you would wear on summer nights or in the fall, but in reality it can be used for so much more then that. The temperature range that it can be used is unbelievable. I've mostly used it for bike commuting (even into the winter), and the insulation always keeps my core warm. It even is fine for biking at night, or at freezing temps. On the other hand, I've keep it on during days that get into the 60's. It's not something you think about while wearing it, but the insulation definitely breathes very well. I can't remember ever having to shed it because of too much sweating. Unfortunately, I bought it at the end of spring so I only got one day of touring in it, but I'm sure this will be my go to on warm spring days for now on. It really is the perfect jacket for "warm then cold" activities like biking or skinning. Most importantly, it's slim fitting and looks great!
The blow alpha jacket utilizes the unique, new Polartec Alpha insulation....the only insulation that actually BREATHS. This is the perfect insulator for skinning, XC skiing, Snowshoeing, hiking....really anytime you need some warmth but Demand breathability. Polartec alpha is a knit insulation so it retains warmth when wet and doesn't have any quills to poke through the fabric like traditional down. It's also the most compressible insulation.
Eider uses Pertex nylon so the jacket is wind proof by construction as well.
This is the ultimate insulator for an active person sick of putting on and taking off their layers all day
