Emotion Renegade Xt Kayak Reviews:

Great all around fishing/hunting/lazy water kayak

Just got my kayak from Cabela's/direct from manufacturer. As most will agree, you get what you pay for. I was looking for a kayak to use for spincast and fly fishing as well as a duck hunting boat/decoy carrier/place for the dog to stay out of the water. This kayak is everything I could ask for. It's light, easy to load into my short bed pick up and will make for a nice piece of equipment when waterfowl hunting. It is wider than some of the other kayaks and proved to be very stable on the lake where I usually fish (had a fair amount of wind, never felt like I was going to fall off). If you are looking for a kayak to paddle through level 3 or higher rapids, win races or set speed records then I would suggest you look else where. If you want a water vessel to help you put food on the table or just tool around on gentle water, I can't imagine very many others than could do a better job. Very pleased with the construction, weight, stability and comfort.

Renegade XT: Good and Bad

First off; I received the kayak and was a little annoyed to find the inside of the hull was filled with plastic shavings and hole saw plugs from where the the rod holders and storage hatch were drilled out. It appears that they forgot to vacuum the inside out.
Took it out bass fishing and was very pleased with the results. Kayak is very stable. Storage room is more than ample. Was able to move with stealth within the lily pads on the lake I was at. Caught a decent amount of fish.
Next I took it out with a buddy on a river run. Difficult to track straight in fast waters and too slow to keep up with my buddy, who was in a river runner, but that's to be expected. However, the stability is excellent. Had to do a couple of lift overs and was able to get in and out with ease.
Overall a good canoe. Extremely stable. Plenty of storage and very comfortable. Highly recommend as an affordable angling kayak but not as a creek runner.

renegade XT

i'm not much of paddler, but i bought this kayak mainly for duck hunting. tracks well for what i need and is pretty stable. i have read that its not recommended but i've have taken shots in front, left and right while sitting in the kayak and feel comfortable. as far as i know, it has not flipped on me yet. always wear your life jackets! the kayak itself is not heavy but its a little cumbersome to lift on top of my SUV by myself. overall great purchase.

recommendation with caveats

I have used this kayak extensively for one year. As other reviews have said, this is no speed demon. In fact, its pretty much a slug. The good news, as it was my first kayak, extreme stability, good storage and an excellent fishing platform was exactly what I was looking for. Tracking is awful but I put a skeg on the back which fixed that issue. If price is not a consideration I would recommend other kayaks. for me, the bang/buck made it an excellent choice.
