great for the value

This is a great printer and the price makes it even better. I'm not sure what problems the other mac user had but set up was simple. Yes the supplied disk is out of date but I had an automatic update to the latest drivers from the epson web site.(osx10.6.4) The colors are ok out of the box. I highly recommend calibrating for best color. After calibration (I use color monkie) the colors are spot on.
The foot print is excellent. It fits on my desk with room to spare. I wish they could get printers this size capable of printing 11x14 (17.7"footprint) I might have to step up to the R1900 for that. Not looking forward to 24.3" foot print.

artisan 50

I have been using this to make note cards. The colors are every bit as good as my wide format
much more expensive Epson printer. It is a tad on the noisy side and the feel of it is indicative of a less expensive unit. The process of setting print sizes is a bit unwieldy but once you get used to it; okay. It will be interesting to see how it holds up and maintains this quality over an extended period of time. One suggestion I would have is to not let the printer "fix photo".
When I have failed to undo this box the printer has tended to wash out some of the vibrancy of color in my photos.

Everyday workhorse

If you're looking for a simple printing that can do it all, this is it. Since we already have the Epson Stylus Pro 3800 for larger jobs the Artisan 50 has been great for all purpose document printing and awesome for printing CD/DVD labels. Ink can be expensive but I think worth it if quality prints are your priority.

Great Photo Printer

This is not a copier or a scanner, but it is a great photo printer. It seems like it doesn't use as much ink as my HP printers do. I have printed 11 8.5 X 11 prints and the ink levels are just starting to drop.

Excellent photo printer!

So far I have printed and framed over three dozen 4x6" and 8 1/2x11". The quality is great. The adjustments that you can make to the photos really help.

Great printer. Works on a PC

Had to review this printer after the apple user review. Works fine in windows 7. I've printed 1000 5x7's on it so far, without any problem.

This is a great color printer.

Prints good on DVDs
Colors are very close to those on the monitor
Like all Epson printers, it is a ink hog

Everything I expected and MORE !!!

Prints quality prints on any quality substrate. I'm happy that I purchased the 50 and highly recommend it to all artists.

Negative Reviews:

Not everything Epson advertises

Promoted as the best printer for standard prints. My 6-yr old HP does a better job. Advertised as compatible with Apple OS software, not so. Software that comes with the printer is outdated. You need to go to Epson's website to download the most recent software, but their site wants you to buy more ink cartridges and sign up for Epson advertising. If you don't do the later, you get no help. The Epson 50 sits on my book case unplugged as I won't be using it. Waste of money!

Total Junk for thick paper

This printer is a total waste. If you are using thick paper it jams every time. Can't believe Epson would put their name on this printer. If you are using everyday inkjet paper its fine. Not for professional use.
