Equinox Ultralite Horizontal Pack Pocket Reviews:

Positive Reviews:

Very Satisfactory

I found this little pack can be used on a vertical backpack shoulder strap as easily as it can be used as designated, on a horizontal strap.

It gives me easy access to a snack (M&Ms, a breakfast bar etc) and a folded map or two. There's room for something else as well, my keys or some money could also fit in there. I think a small point-and-shoot camera would also fit, but maybe not with as many map sheets as I shove in there.

The only non-positive comment I could make is that I would prefer the flat, webbed pocket on the surface have a zipper closure rather than velcro. That may just be personal preference however. I don't like yanking it open, and velcro so often gets worn and clogged with lint over time. I'd only put something in there I didn't want often. I find the zipper on the main pocket much more easily accessed.

I like the vertical-designed pocket made for a shoulder strap too, but this horizontal-designed version is a little roomier. It's still small enough that it doesn't bug me sitting on my shoulder strap, and I am a small person.

Excellent pouch for backpacking

I needed a pouch to hold snacks while on the trail. My Gregory backpack is great but the side pouches hold very little. The Equinox pouch was insignificant weight wise, but provided ample room for my snacks each day during a three day hike. I attached it to my pants belt. I would recommend it to any backpacker looking for additional pockets that are convenient without having to put down the pack.

perfect for hipbelt

I was looking for a lightweight hip-belt bag to keep handy essential hiking-backpacking items such as compass, lip balm, tissue, hand sanitizer, matches, firesteel, etc. Was impressed with it after it arrived -- the brown is very dark, much darker than depicted on the website. Love it.

pack pocket

I use it on my granite gear pack on multi day hikes. It is perfect. Was just what ordered, light wieght, and versatile.

Handy backpack accessory

My winter pack has no pockets on the waistbelt. It saves me having to take my pack off to grab a snack.

I wanted a ultralight packpocket to add to my all ready ultralight backpack. Not sure if it gets any lighter than this.

nice add to pouch

Have not had the pouches out in bad weather yet so don't know about the water repelling this pouch has.

Great product

I purchased this to get organized while hiking. Great lightweight "office" to keep all your items right at hand.

A light way to keep small stuff handy.

Just the thing for keeping small stuff handy when using minimalist packs.

Negative Reviews:

Needs to be stiffer

I had planned to use this to carry my glasses on my belt where they'd be handy and easy to grab with one hand. But the body of this pouch is so soft that you need two hands to unzip it -- one to pull the zipper and the other to hold the end of the pouch. Having to use two hands pretty much defeats the purpose I had in mind.

quality = price

wanted something to put on the belt of my coat to put useful items in - this is to flimsy for this purpose and takes both hands to open - it will probably go in the bottom of a box someplace - which is as good as thrown away. If I were carrying anything in a pack or bag a zip lock is better.

Didn't work for me

Needs clips as well as the straps. Doesn't work well on a belt with that just the straps.

Neutral Reviews:

Useful, [...]

I was looking for a small pack to attach to my front custom bicycle rack to hold my electronic gear near my dyno hub. This should work in terms of size, but it seems a bit flimsy and perhaps not very weather resistant, but it is the only thing that I found that is the exact size I need.

It was expensive for what it is, but hopefully it will work.

Small but handy

I didn't read the discription well enough or I would have realized this was smaller than I needed. No big deal, it was cheap enough and it makes a nice bag to strap on the outside of your backpack to make some smaller items more easily accessible. Don't believe it's very water resistant but the zipper fuctions well.

Pack Pocket

This is too small to be of much use.
