Equinox Vapor Barrier Liner Regular Reviews:

Great for cold weather camping

I am a cold sleeper with faster than normal metabolism that I always woke up freezing while my sleeping bag being covered by condensation. I am a ultra-light backpacker who weighed everything in grams, I can deal with this for weekend trips. So I delayed adding this gear for almost a year. But for a 2 week high altitude trekking (6000 - 17000 feet) in Peru, I had to take some precaution. So I baught Campmor vapor barrier liner. On the first night on Inca trail, I felt so warm that I didn't bother to use the vbl. I was wrong, the night temperature dropped, once again my sleeping bag was covered by condensation in the morning. For the next 10+ days hiking in both Inca trail (6000 feet) and Ausangate (16000+ feet), I always used the vbl. It made huge difference. When everyone else had to use 2 sleeping bags and still felt cold, I was enjoying warmth in a 15 degree bag with a thin cotton liner and this vbl. My sleeping bag stayed dry and warm even if the temperature dropped to 7F or below when the inside tent was covered by frost. I am very impressed at the performance of this product. I will always take it with me for cold temperature camping. Thanks Campmor.

Adds warmth, not weight

Purchased this for an April overnight in the Adirondacks. Wasn't super cold but it was snowing, got down to around the freezing mark. I was quite comfortable in my 20-degree-rated sleeping bag along with this VBL. In fact, the only downside is by nature its operation: it doesn't vent your moisture, so when you sweat it stays with you! But by working with layers I stayed incredibly warm in a bag I've been shivering in by morning in warmer weather. It escapes me why this product is not sold in every camping store given its weight/comfort tradeoff. That said, I have not tried this in true winter weather.

Bicycle Campers Dream

My sleeping bags is rated at 50 and it packs up nice and small. By adding this vapor barrier, I was able to camp this fall when it dropped into the 30's. I was very comfortable. Not to warm or clammy, just about right. It really does add 10 to 15 degrees of warmth. You begin to feel the warmth within seconds. I was also wearing a light layer of Merino Wool. Perfect match !!

Campmor VP

Can't say I liked the clammy wet feeling in the morning when you wake up but that's what a vapor barrier does. It kept me warm and the down sleeping bag dry. I haven't tried this yet but the instructor of our outdoor program suggested sowing a fleece liner to the VP which woud increase the warmth and keep you drier. Also you can't beat the price of the one here.

vapor barrier in western montana

This liner does exactly what a vapor barrier should do, keep my bag from absorbing moisture from the inside. Matched with a good DWR on the outside of the sleeping bag, as well as a solid, ventable tent and it is as bomb proof as you can get.

Works as described, I'll recommend it.

For longer outings it protects bag insulation from body perspiration buildup. It also extends the bags temperature rating.
