Mountain goats got nothin' on the Evolv Men's Stryker Approach Shoe. Climb right along with those furry horn-headed scramblers—a TRAX high friction rubber sole uses a toe edging platform to give you purchase on narrow lips and grippy traction on slippery rocks. The leather upper and gel insole of the Stryker Approach Shoe comfortably sustain you through long approaches. A rubber toe and heel rand offers grip when wedging your way up a chimney, and stub protection when navigating through a boulder field.

Extremely comfortable on-trail, and around town. So much so, that it seems to be the only shoe I've been grabbing off the rack every time I'm out the door, no matter what activity I'm heading out for. The fit is spot-on. I wear an 11.5 dress shoe, and an 11.5 in this shoe places all of my toes right above the working area of the sole. Not much wiggle room, so expect a close but not uncomfortable fit in the toe. The stock honeycomb insole is as good (maybe even a tad better) than some of the aftermarket insoles I have gone through. Having suffered with plantar fasciitis for several years now, I've come to expect very little from stock insoles in most shoes that I have purchased. So, the comfort of these insoles was a very pleasant discovery. Additionally, the TRAX outsole is aggressive and grabby. An extra plus: When I was digging my shoes out of their box, I noticed an advert printed on the box stating that Evolv provides a re-soling service through their website. VERY reasonable prices for a re-sole or re-rand, whenever that time comes. Turns out that this wasn't just a great purchase it was a great investment.

Pretty decent all-arounder

I picked these guys up about a month ago. I was looking for a cheap replacement for my abused Montrails. For the price, I couldn't pass these up. I did, however, have to settle for a half size larger than I wear normally as my size was out of stock. Despite the larger size, these shoes are comfortable, but they are definitely true to size. I wear around town every day and they wear fine. Though no real complaints, a good insert would be swell. Oh, as the soles are sticky rubber, I wouldn't take them into your mom's kitchen (scuffs galore!). Pros: -almost zero break-in period. comfort out of the box. -strong on trail and off -great color/style -leather uppers will take abuse with a smile Cons: -They scuff indoors if not careful -Could use more support. especially if hitting a high-impact approach. a high-quality insert should take care of this easy -not very stiff soles. makes rolling corners/ledges easier. (might be fixed by getting your real shoe size) :D All in all, good stuff. For the price, they look great, feel good, and keep the spirit of the trail alive even when hitting the town. Cheers!

I used these a couple of times on some local trails and just around town to break them in a bit before really putting them to use. At first, they were a bit stiff and uncomfortable, but that didn't last long. I just returned from a trip in the Sierra Nevada backcountry. They were the only shoe/boot I brought. We were doing some cross-country routes into third and fourth class peak climbs. The shoe was great. I was glad to shed some weight off my feet. The only downside is that a low shoe like this is more prone to get rocks in your shoe. I had gaitors with me, but the problem never warranted the use. They would solve that problem if it got to be too bothersome. Good shoe. They took some good abuse this trip. I hope they hold up in the long term.

Great Shoe, Great Price.

This shoe rocks. I bought this shoe on sale thinking why not? Its only $40. I didn't realize that I would like them so much until I went on my first hike. They are very light weight, they have adequate grip on rocks, and one thing they dont mention online is the insoles which are top notch in these shoes and probably some of the best I have seen in any kicks I have had. We recently hiked Old Rag in Virginia, its a 10 mile hike/rock scramble. My feet stayed comfortable the whole day and I never had a problem with traction. I wear these shoes everywhere now around DC and my girlfriend can't stand it. She doesn't like the way they look but they are so comfortable and they perform like a champ. Buy them!

Great for Scramble-style hikes

Took these bad boys out for the first time today, and I was impressed. Took less effort to get up and over, as well as down rocks due to their incredible grip. Maybe it was all in my head, but if it helps give you confidence in your footing that sure is a plus. When I first tried them on I was afraid that they wouldn't tighten enough, but this fear was put to rest when I got on the trail and realized I had tightened them too much. After loosening them up a little they were quite comfortable and did their job. Would recommend these to anyone who loves scrambling.

stylish and comfy | |

Comfy out of the box, I've only used them as an all around sneaker so far, but they are great. Thankfully I got the grey ones, and they look very sharp. The grip seems good, as they get almost stuck on laminate flooring and I can hear the grip. Kinda funny. I quickly noticed some fraying around the top of the shoe. From the looks of it the lace wears into some of the fabric and most likely caused it. Hopefully it stays minor but I did notice it on both shoes after only a week or so of use.

Stryker | |

I have had a few approach shoes in my time and the Stryker is my favorite so far. I put some "super feet" arch supports in them and DAMN they are comfy. I live in the Boulder Colorado area which has some pretty burly approaches. I mainly boulder, so hikes to Mt. Evans, Rocky Mountain National Park and front range areas tend to be long, steep and rocky. These babies have been able to handle snow pack, mud, talus and the occasional bar. They look cool and can handle anything in my opinion.

Great for approaches and mountain biking

These are some pretty awesome shoes. Super sticky rubber, and they grip wet rock really well. The second time I used them, I had to hike up 2 miles of snow-covered road (we had no idea it was still snowed in) to get to the crag, so the wet rock thing I really put to the test. They also double as my biking shoes - I ride with platform pedals, and they're just about perfect for that.

Super sticky approach shoe!

The fit in the toe box is a tad wide - I have a medium width foot. I just sized them down a 1/2 sz from what I normally wear and that snugged the shoe up. If you are gonna be stomping a lot of flat ground this shoe will start to hurt your feet a bit. If your rock hoppin' this shoe is the best!!

Great hiking climbing shoe.

Great approach/climbing shoe. I love a shoes which are more climb than hike and this shoe is it. The sole towards the fore foot seems a thinner and much more sensitive than a sneaker type shoe. I like this feature a lot. The Trax rubber is very sticky. As noted however, the orange in the picture is WAY off from the orange in real life.
