SO Comfortable

Another person who never thought I'd spend this much money on a pair of boxers. Ordered 2 pair of exofficio and 2 pair of Terramar based on some previous reviews that claimed Terramar was as good if not better than exofficio. NOT true. The Terramar aren't bad, but don't stay in place as well as the exofficio and tend to "grab" leg hair sometimes. The exofficio on the other hand are so comfortable you don't even realize you're wearing them. I bought these prior to our move to Costa Rica and I'm very glad I did. These really hold up well against the humidity and it's great to be able to quickly hand wash them and hang them up to dry quickly. The only minor complaint I can think of is that the seat of the boxers seem to wear out a little too easily. Granted the "pilling" started because I did not remove the extra button that came with my pants that was sewn in to the care instructions tag. I thought they would be a durable enough to handle that, but both pairs wore in the same spot due to the button. I have since removed the button, but I fear the damage is already done. Does not effect the comfort though.
Ramblin' Man at Campmor on 07/07/2012
To make this review meaningful, let me explain where I'm coming from: I don't really like clothes. I especially don't like underwear. Also worth noting is that I hate wearing most synthetic fabrics that I've ever tried, just don't like the slight static charge feeling they tend to generate with movement. So, it was a leap of faith, based partially on the previous reviews, for me to order these (after accepting the fact that sometimes you just gotta wear something underneath). Having said that, I think these shorts are changing my worldview. Seriously. I was a little disturbed that they had a fairly strong chemical (solvent-y) smell out of the package, but it completely vanished with one washing. They don't build up a static charge, they breath (the fabric is more mesh-like than you would expect) and in general only make themselves known by adding comfort. The cut is quite obviously designed to be not restrictive and functional rather than fashionable, so I'm giving them 5 stars for fashion for that reason. They are a perfectly designed product for their purpose, and knowing that things like that still come along makes me like the world (of clothing, and in general) just a little bit more.

All I Wear Now

I bought a couple of pair of these for a hiking trip last year. Prior to this, my boxers were the "traditional" all cotton Hanes or Fruit of the Loom boxers. They were what they were - boxers. They did the job I supposed but I didn't want to be wearing them for several days hiking many miles a day.

I couldn't be happier with my purchase. They're definitely pricier, but I liked them so much I bought two more pair so I could wear them every day.

The cut of the boxers is a little bit different than the cut of the "traditional" boxers I've worn. As a result, they fit much more comfortably and seem to do a better job of keeping everything down there in place. They seem less prone to bunching up and after 6 months of continuous wear, there's not a single hole in any of the 4 pair that I own.

I'm just keeping my eyes open for another sale where I can pick up a few more pair!

NOT Most comfortable performance undies.

Over 15 months ago, I first rated these boxers, giving them a 4.0 under a different community-profile username, stating I'd have given them "a 5-Star if I'd tried the Patagonia's for comparison..." (On average) I've worn these at least weekly for nearly 1.5 years. While I stand by my assessment that they are "supremely breathable...[and] really do resist odor," they DO chafe--I've taken them on more extreme outdoor excursions; they bunch (and may cause chafing) even in the office setting!--because there's just TOO MUCH FABRIC (a frequent complaint) in these nevertheless high- quality/performance boxers. I do love freedom, but I don't dig what I now consider a less-than-ideal fit. For those who want the look and comfort of a boxer, the moisture-wicking and odor-resistant quality of the ExO's, and both less unecessary fabric and greater support down below, UNDER ARMOUR BOXERJOCKS deliver for a similar (but still expensive) premium... DEFINITELY NOT IDEAL FOR ATHLETIC USES.

Best boxers for outdoor use!

Amazing boxers! I am a wilderness guide and spend 5 days a week in the woods (even sleeping). These are the only underwear i wear! Extremely comfy and breathable. They can stretch an amazing amount so they never snag or get in the way. No bad rub spots or anything like that either. They also dry extremely fast, if i wear them in a river or lake under a pair of synthetic shorts, both are nearly completely dry within 30 mins. I can wash them in the river, hang them out in the sun and they are dry in even less time. It's true you really only need two pairs! Just rotate wearing one and washing one. They are also very durable, i've put mine through 2 years of extremely hard use (as hard as you can get for underwear that is!) and they are still nearly as good as when i first bought them.
JeremyIm1 at REI on 05/05/2009

Best boxers I've ever owned

Bought 2 pairs of these to bring on a month long camping/hiking trip. I brought other underwear along for the trip, but by the end of the first week I ditched wearing my patagonias for these. They're comfortable and in dry climates I was able to wash these in the evening and they'd be dry by morning. They do wonders at resisting odor when you're on a trip where you can't get to a shower every couple days. After I got home from the trip I started wearing these almost exclusively from the rest of my underwear. I've picked up a few more pairs and wear them all the time now. They're also great for traveling and packing everything into your carry on. Wear one pair on the plane and toss 2 in your bag and you're good to go indefinitely. I don't think I could recommend these highly enough.
SKush at REI on 06/06/2010

I am so glad that I discovered ExOfficio Give-N-Go boxers. The fabric is very soft and breathable. They fit equally well under jeans and shorts. Once you tuck them in place the smooth material slides with your pants and does not bunch up. The material wicks moisture to keep you cool and dries in an instant. The waist band keeps them in place without digging into your skin or leaving marks. I used to be a boxer-brief guy, but these boxers have caused me to switch. I am 6'3" and weigh 180lbs with a 32" waist and the medium fits perfect. You can wash them in the sink and they will be dry by morning, or they can double as sleep shorts, either way you save space in your bag. Whether you are traveling or out for adventure, these boxers will not let you down.

Short Waistband Life

I've been wearing these virtually every day for the last few years - no not the same pair .... I've purchased several pairs from Campmor due to the relatively low price. I like these boxers a lot. They move well even during athletic endeavors. They're breathable and don't take on the funk of cotton or wool products. The fly is in the right place and works as it should.

My only real complaint is the short life-cycle of the elastic waist band. Most of mine have shown signs of the elastic giving out within a year of rotated wear, i.e. once a week with regular washing. For an (almost) $20 pair of underwear, that's not particularly good performance.

Bottom Line: Really good for casual/occasional wear - even during athletic events - but not recommended for daily wear.
Mudinyeri at Campmor on 08/08/2013

The Boxer Bomb

I purchased these Give-N-Go Boxers with the intention of drying more quickly after paddling. The description of these boxers is accurate in that they do dry quickly which is an important detail in my case because of being paralyzed and lacking the ability to feel what's going on in the seating department of my kayak while paddling. The slippery material also make it easier for getting these boxers on and off. I purchased my first two pair of boxers about a year ago and they don't seem any more worn than the last two pair which were purchased just two weeks ago. These are just right for the exposure I put them through. I can confidently recommend anyone purchase and use these with confidence. Now if we could discover a way to get the price down.
Paralyzed Paddler at Campmor on 08/08/2011

Works as advertised

After years of suffering with cotton boxer shorts for my multiple-day Adirondack backpacking trips, I have seen the light. No longer will I have to tolerate uncomfortably sweaty, steamy "junk" during my hikes. No longer will my boxers remain sweaty for hours and hours after my hike, making me cold and clammy down there at night, when trying to stay warm in my sleeping bag.

These performance boxers breathe and shed moisture exactly as advertised. I know, because I put them through a grueling test this past July, while climbing the 5-peak Dix Range in the Adirondacks. I cannot recommend these highly enough. They kept me cool and comfortable during and after the hike. No chaffing, less odor and better temperature regulation are all the result of wearing these.
jonnieoh at Campmor on 11/11/2010

Negative Reviews:

Not very comfortable

I'm surprised that other people rated these so well. I bought two pair years ago and took them on several trips. There is so much material that if you wear them with anything other than the baggiest of pants, they will bunch up. Additionally, with all the walking I do, they seem to abrade off the hairs on your thighs and then your stubble gets caught in the weave, which really hurts!
There also seemed to be so much material that sweat would get soaked into the folds and not evaporate on its own.
Also, I found that overnight was not long enough for them to dry, in a not that humid climate, in a warm room, even after wringing them out the night before after washing.
I bought the briefs, and I hope they perform better.
MonsieurBon at REI on 02/02/2008

The Shorts Melted!

On a hiking trip through the Grand Canyon, my husband noticed a patch of material in the front on the boxers that would be in the vicinity of his front pant's pocket that apparently had melted. The only thing he could account for the destruction was his small camera that he carried in his pocket, which never seemed to reach a temperature itself that was too hot to hold in his hands, nor could cause the fabric default. Would not reccommend these since they are supposed to be used in hot weather conditions and they can't perform as needed.
FM Hiker at Campmor on 07/07/2012

Waistband wears out quickly

I am amazed there's only one other review saying this: the waistband wears out very quickly. It becomes very loose and wavy. I have three pairs and it's the same story with all of them. Looking at them, you'd think maybe I've had them for years and worn them hundreds of times. Not at all. The problem starts after you've worn them, say, 20 times. At first, you think they're the best thing ever, but then you learn.
Universe Man at REI on 02/02/2011

Never dry

Advertised as quick drying, these only dried completely if I was in a hotel with a hair dryer to use on them. Thank god I brought along a few pairs of regular ordinary cotton boxers, and didn't fall for the hype that these were the only shorts you'd need. They were clammy and clingy and chafed. I bought two pair, wore only one, returned it as soon as my trip ended.
MLamprey at REI on 09/09/2007

breathable but rides up legs - annoying!

wore these several days hiking thru alaska in early july. breathability and cleaning/drying ease were great. however they kept riding up my leg and bunching up in my crotch, which was really annoying. perhaps my thighs are too big/defined? i have an athletic build w/ 34" waist, size large used - i can't imagine that i needed size X-Large. product might be best for slimmer thighs??
trek2112 at REI on 07/07/2009

Great materials but too blousy

I bought this primarily for traveling due to its fast drying, comfortable fabric. Unfortunately for me it's way too blousy/roomy. I have a 33" waist and ordered a medium. The waist is ok but everything else is way out of proportion. The leg openings are super wide and the hip/thigh area feel like they were made for XL.
corey at Campmor on 05/05/2013

Waistbands are horrible

These things are awesome BUT FOR the waistband materials. I've bought 5 pair and they all loose their shape/support at the waistband from just normal wear - nothing crazy. I expect more/better for[$]a pair. If they fixed the waistband, these things would rock.
Diesel Cruiser at REI on 11/11/2009

You've got to be kidding

I was surprised by the poor quality and shapeless, oversize fit. I didn't even try them on before I returned them. Must be a below grade side product by Ex Officio.

Did not like the fit and product seems overpriced. Found lightweight cotton boxers at that fit better and met quick drying criteria for camping on photo safari in Tanzania, Africa.

Not bad

Just my two cents that I dont think these are quite as good as the rating implies. Took three pairs on my last trip to NZ. On the plane (12 hrs) I thought the mesh cut in a bit; so I went back to cotton on the way home--much better. They are great on the trail. They have a nice light feeling about them. Good for being up and about; not so good for sitting on for long periods of time.

Hard to find good cotton boxers any more, which I still prefer. REI had a great boxer many years ago (grey with black band), but no more.

Buy the next larger size

I have worn these shorts in the Large size for years and I have not gained very much weight during that time. In the past year, however, this manufacturer has begun making the Large smaller. So I now comfortably wear the Extra Large in the new version and they fit as well as the old version Large did. Sad when they "go cheap" to make money with a previously good product.
Old Red at Campmor on 11/11/2010

ExOfficio give-to-go boxer

Used the product on a trip to Europe. I found the cut to be VERY loose and the fabric came "snagged". Dries very quickly when washed, as advertised.

I would recommend it to a friend if they wanted something to dry fast, but not for the comfort. Fits very loose, and I'm not certain of the out of the package condition.
The Don at Campmor on 10/10/2012

A little tight

The XXL on a forty-five waist is a tad tight. Elastic is fine, construction is fine. Overall, I'd say it's overpriced for what it is - a decent pair of boxers. Also, I don't get the anti-microbe bit for underpants. Fungus is the most commom crotch malady; bacteria fight fungi.

Campmor service - excellent.
cavjam at Campmor on 08/08/2013

They were OK.

We went on a 10 mile hike. Its was a very hummd day. I was hoping they keep me dry. I still ended up with issues.. If your a true hiker you will know what I mean..
Froggy at Campmor on 09/09/2011

comfortable for hiking

these are great for everything but backpacking. the waistband is not soft, so with backpacking hip belt pressing on it, the rough waistband rubs on the skin, giving the equivelant of a carpet burn.
