UK review

You can't buy these knickers in the UK, so I imported them from REI directly on the strength of these reviews, thinking they'd be good for summer backpacking trips. That was nearly 2 months ago, and I've been wearing them constantly ever since!

The sizing is a little out--I'm a size 10/12 and the medium is only just the right side of tight for me. If you're a solid UK 12 on the hips, you'll need to bite the bullet and go large.

That said, I don't think I'll be going to the usual place (you'll know where I mean if you're a Brit) for my undies after this. These briefs make everything else in the drawer look and feel bulky. In fact I'd like to throw the rest away and invest in a few more pairs of ExOfficio bikinis.. they're soooo comfortable!

I initially bought one bikini and one string bikini pair, and both have been a revelation. The performance fabric looks more delicate than it actually is; you can machine wash at 30/40 degrees along with everything else and it won't suffer. You can also wash these panties with a bar of soap under a cold tap if need be, and the famous towel trick works well enough that there are dry patches immediately. On a hot day you could put them straight back on, IMHO, and they'd be totally dry in minutes. In colder months, 10 minutes over a warm radiator does the business. I'd avoid putting them through a dryer--the fabric was never meant for high temperatures--but you really won't need to be doing that anyway.

Admittedly the string bikini looks a lot sexier than the straight bikini, but these are still a long, long way from granny knickers. They sit more or less on the hip, they're not baggy, and they don't ride up or in.

Yes, they're expensive. But boy, are they worth it!

Better than naked!

Ok-I admit it, I am very persnickety about my underwear. My husband has the mens version and has been raving about them being the only underwear he wants to wear, all the time, every day! So I doubtfully bought some. These are the best undies ever, bar none! On the trial run, I wore them on a hot humid day and hiked for 10 miles, then changed all my clothes except these and went out for a night on the town. I kept wondering if I remembered to wear underwear that day, and then I thought Oh yeah they are the things that feel like silk, and about the only parts not sweaty were under these. I plan to slowly amass these undies until I can throw all others away. They really do wash and dry very easily and quickly, I have even accidentally put them in the dryer with no ill afffects. I will be taking these (and ONLY these kind) on my Australian trekking trip in a month. I have tried Patagonia, not even close, not as breathable and they crawl. Buy these and feel carefree!

Favorite Pair of Underwear, Hands Down!

I bought a pair of exofficio bikini underwear in size small from the REI store in Ann Arbor, MI. I am generally a women's size 2-4.
I am writing a review because I love these underpants! When I bought them, my only concern was the fit, but I shouldn't have worried. :}
I now wear my exofficio underwear as often as I can because their comfortable fit and wicking/fast drying qualities quickly made them my favorite pair of underwear.
Best uses: They are great to wear on hot days and for exercising/activities because they help keep sweat and subsequent discomfort at bay.
Not only are these underwear comfortable and wick away sweat, they also wash well and really do dry fast enough to wear the next morning.
I have never owned a pair of wicking underwear before my exofficio pair, so please note I do not have another brand with which to compare. I really do not have anything bad to say about the exofficio underwear. I am completely satisfied with their performance and think they were well worth the money!

best pair of quick dry undies yet!

For years I have used the Patagonia undies, thinking they were the holy grail of synthetic and quick drying undies. I was wrong. I bought these to try out for a 3 week backpacking trip last Sept (2010) and I have been wholeheartedly converted.

While the Patagonia ones are cuter, they pinch and soak in sweat more easily. These sit much more comfortably on my frame, wick well and keep me dry, essential when hiking 8-10 hours a day with a big pack! I took 2 of these on my 3 week backpacking trip in the Sierras, and I washed a pair every night so I would always have clean undies the next day. The smell washed out right away (using Dr. Boehner's) and they dried fast enough that I always had clean undies ready to go the next day.

They are so much more comfortable than the Patagonia ones, the fabric is silky with no tugging or pulling of the other ones. I highly recommend and am considering getting more for my daily use!

While underwear purchases don't usually fall on the exciting end of the gear buying spectrum, every girl has to layer properly, and these don't disappoint. My initiation to ExOfficio products was about two years ago with a pair of underoos and pants that helped get me through a 7 week trip around Oz, NZ, and a couple South Pacific islands, confined to one carryon of stuff. The quick-dry claims proved true, even in the island heat and humidity. I loved these products so much, I doubled down and bought a few extra pairs for a recent trek up Kilimanjaro. Now, I say the best underwear are the pairs you don't notice while wearing, and even during our hot, dry day hiking, or the few times we had to scramble over rocks, I never once had to re-adjust or wish they would air out. Overall, a superb option for the active girl's wardrobe, and a great way to layer without drama.

Wow. Never in my wildest dreams did I think I would review underwear - but these deserve a shout-out. Weary of traveling with endless pairs of plain cotton underwear that chafed, rode up, trapped heat, and never dried out after washing overnight, I invested in two pairs of these after reading some reviews. Let me tell you: these are a better investment than most of those in your mutual fund. They were cool, soft, and virtually undetectable - I literally forgot I was wearing them. They never, ever rode up. The fit is perfect. And, when washed, they dry out in a matter of hours. I took two pair on a 8-day trip to Central America. I could have gotten away with just bringing the pair I showed up in. For anyone who travels, hikes, camps, paddles - this is the only underwear to have.

Best for travel, backpacking, etc etc

These undies are the most comfortable, breathable, and fastest-drying I've used. All the other reviewers' comments apply, especially the towel trick to remove excess water after hand-washing - just remember to remove the undies from the towel and hang them out to dry! I've used other brands, including the more expensive high-end briefs (the brand, of course, remains nameless but REI does sell their products! - the latter are softer but not as breathable or as fast to dry), and these are overall my favorite. I've not experienced the staining problem with the white briefs, but then again I mostly own these briefs in black. In black, the briefs or the string bikini can masquerade as bikini bottoms.

Just don't wash them in a "sanitize" cycle - the very hot water seems to deteriorate the elastic, much to my dismay!

I'm a convert....

I have been a die-hard lover of patagonia's underware. Recently I have not liked their colors or designs, and it seems they are always out of stock. So, I tried these. I don't think I will go back to the expensive and hard to get patagonia underware. These are so light weight and soft. Just perfect for active booties. I only gave these 4 stars because the are a bit higher waisted than I would prefer. I also purchased the string bikinis, and they are perfect. So if you are looking for the perfect underpants with a higher rise, buy these, If you want a lower cut, try the string bikinis. Either way I am very happy with my purchase, so Happy in fact, I bought a pair of the ExOfficio boxers for my boyfriend!

I hike 4 to 5 times a week and it can get warm out there. I love these give-n-go Bikini Briefs. They feel like you are wearing nothing, while still protecting your vitals. I had bought 2 pairs of the briefs and - after trying them out - turned around and bought the bikini's too to have more variety on hand. Would like to replace all my undies with these. Plan to take them on upcoming backpack trip due to the comfort and quick drying aspect. Can be a bit pricey - but you won't be dissapointed. I wear size 2 to 4 and bought size small. Fit is good. You may be able to get away with extra small, but didn't want to risk being too small.

great panties

I wear these all the time now; easy to care for if you do the towel trick. I have 8 pairs in dark colors. I won't buy the light colors because it's hard getting stains out of them. I fell in a mud puddle and the mud stain never came out of the white pair. So I bought the light blue &light green pair, same problem so I now only buy the dark colors. Very easy to pack; only pack 3 or 4 pairs (some people only bring 1 extra). I've had some for a few years and you can't tell the diff in the new and the old ones. They wear very well.

Negative Reviews:

I've worn these for hiking, kayaking (using a dry suit) and working out. Ex-Officio came highly recommended by REI store employee and my husband - he loves his Ex-O briefs. I really hate wearing these!! I have 2 pair and both have the same attributes. The interior seams are so bulky and rough that they chafe and leave ridges. I've tried them many times in both cooler and warmer temps and always the same experience...I can't wait to take them off as they are so uncomfortable. They wick OK and dry fast, but that's their ONLY redeeming features!
I'd highly recommend the REI bikini briefs - they wick, dry fast and are made of higher quality fabric and much better design on the interior seams. I have multiple pairs and they are COMFORTABLE and are standing up to wear and laundering really well.

Check your size!!

Ordered an XL for a friend who is 6' with a proportionate body and the package arrived stating it was a L/XL
There is a difference in those sizes, how can you combine them?
The underwear fit but were too tight for comfort.

(On the flip side, I've been wearing the medium for a couple of years now- both for travel and everyday, they serve me well and are super comfortable however i noticed that they hold up better if not put into the dryer at all - they shrink over time and start to lost their silkiness)
Kat at Eastern Mountain Sports (EMS) on 01/01/2014

Not happy with order control

I took an eight day sea kayaking trip in Glacier Bay Alaska. I was impressed at how quickly the panties dried and how well the wicking worked, but they smelled rank! When I got home and washed them per instructions, they still smelled. I had to put them through the washer a second time. There is no way I'd use them 15 countries 3 pairs of underwear or however they advertise. I'm also a runner and I'd rather not have to treat my workout underwear as delicates. I won't be buying these again.
PrincessJ at REI on 08/08/2011

Not for everybody

Purchased these (or their predecessor)2 years ago for a 150km hike. While the fit was fine, I did not find that they were breathable. They were hot and (sorry to be frank) gave me rashes on my inner thighs that I have never had before. Wore them about 4 times before throwing away. My husband has ex-officio pants that he loves, but these did not work for me.

too big

bought these to wear under board shorts for snorkeling and got large based on other reviews here about size running small. i disagree and should have bought medium for this purpose. in water these underwear become very loose and baggy and they do not dry as quickly as would have expected. it may be that they aren't suited to water sports as well but will try medium next time. large might be fine for regular wear as the seams fit snug but the material does not. seem to be good quality though.
turbodog at REI on 06/06/2013

nice but not my favorite

I am 5'9" and 160lbs. I needed some quick-dry undies for backpacking and tried out three varieties: Patagonia Barely Bikini (L), ExOfficio Give-N-Go Lacy Low Rise Bikini (L) and ExOfficio Give-N-Go Bikini (L). I liked the Patagonia best. The lacy low rise are pretty but they wedge and will be returned; this bikini by ExOfficio is worth keeping but the fit and material are just not as nice as the Patagonia. Though both manage moisture well and dry overnight, the Patagonia is softer and stretches better.
Regina at REI on 08/08/2011

Nice, but if you're a MED order LARGE

These are nicely made (good stitching, etc.), but they are a full size smaller than other brands (thus, if you normally order size 6 or Medium, order LARGE). Also, be aware that the fabric is heavily perforated--necessary for breathe-ability and quick drying, I expect, but I wasn't as fond of the look or feel as some other reviewers are. Still, they are likely a good, serviceable item if you order UP a size and like the screen-like type of fabric.
