Makes the others obsolete...

Rating:*****
I was absolutely blown away by these mats. I purchased both the regular Synmat 7 model and the Synmat 7 DLX, and can say that they have made my "self-inflating" pads completely obsolete. Even the DLX, at more than 6" wider and 6" longer, packs way smaller than the other pads, and the comfort level is simply amazing. They are so soft and cushy, even on rocky surfaces. In response to the users who have had trouble using the built-in pump or who have felt as if they are "on a raft", here are the two "tricks":
1. For the pump – place the palm of one hand over the inlet valve and then press down with both hands, release, and repeat. The pump has a one-way valve going into the mat, so you only need to block the inlet with your palm as you push down so that the air in the pump "section" goes into the mat instead of out of the hole you're pushing on. It's a simple process, but then again, with a one-way valve, it's easy enough just to blow up the mat using lung power since the air doesn't escape between breaths.
2. For that "raft feeling" – the mat only needs to be just barely inflated. Your body weight will redistribute the air and make it very soft and comfortable. If you over-fill it, it'll be very rigid and definitely pool-float-esque.
All-in-all, I wouldn't hesitate to recommend these mats to anyone. I can't believe I've wasted so much time on other mats that pack larger and heavier and aren't even in the same ballpark on comfort.

Worth the Weight

Rating:*****
As a 6'3" 'side-sleeper' I searched for a comfortable mat for a long time. This is the one. Heavier than most tho' worth the weight penalty for the comfort gain.

Seems durable. Used it for three seasons now, including overnights above tree-line in the Cascades. No punctures.

My Big Agnes mat, designed to slip in to a pocket on the underside of my Big Agness bags, is comfortable but too narrow for my tastes. The Synmat Delux is too wide to fit the sleeve/mat pocket but I've had no problems simply laying the bag atop the pad; still plenty warm and the extra width commands more floor space if one is sharing the tent.

It is most comfortable for me if not completely filled, leaving some give in the surface to mold to body contours.

The built in air pump works well and has been reliable. The filling technique is somewhat akin to external cardio-massage but it doesn't take long to get it done.

Excellent sleeping pad

Rating:*****
This pad is great. I bought it before going on a winter camping trip and it kept me toasty warm (temps were down in the high 10's I'd guess). It inflates easily with the built in pump. I did not feel any chill at all from the frozen ground. And as a 6'3" camper I really liked the extra length and width.

And for backpacking in cold weather, it packs down smaller and is ligher than a comparable R-value Thermarest or Big Agnes pad (although you pay a price $$ for this convenience).

I'd recommend for anyone willing to pay the $$ for comfort and warmth.

If you're a "side sleeper" get this pad!

Rating:*****
I'm a side sleeper and was always uncomfortable on a Thermarest. I never slept well on them and my hips and shoulders would always be sore in the morning from the pressure points.

But I tried the Exped 7 Deluxe out in a REI store and was amazed. I turned onto my side and could not feel the ground at all, just the comfortable pad. I've used it in the backcountry and it is like I'm sleeping on a real mattress.

Highly recommended.

Happy with my purchase

Rating:*****
I was very happy with this mat. I took it on a backpacking trip and slept very comfortable which is a must for me. I am very glad that I got the deluxe just so that I had a little bit more room to wiggle around. Although this mat does weigh more than some others I think the extra weight is worth it. Also it is easy to pump up and easy to get back in the stuff sack when you are done.
