Great cot for plump granny

I purchased this as a last minute solution to more guests than beds. I wish I had purchased 2. (Will do so shortly.) I chose to be the one to use it as I thought it would be the least comfortable. Instead, it was great! Very comfortable. I am in my 60s, on the plump side, and not mechanically inclined. Yet this cot was easy to set up and take down - a quick look at the instructions showed me how to lock the end bars into place. It was easy to get into and out of. It packs easily into its carry case and weight-wise I could carry it short distances with no problem. I am glad that I did not read the negative reviews before or I might not have purchased it. I did purchase the replacement policy so if I do have a problem -it still won't be a problem. After trying it for a nap, my brother took over the cot the next night. Then he and my niece had a duel to see who would have it for the following night. My nephew - who camps a lot - ended up taking it home with him. All who slept on it agreed it was the best camping cot ever. The men appreciated the extra size. And everyone who has had the experience of a leaky air mattress agreed this is what they want. This will solve a major portion of my holiday shopping.

Surprisingly great product!

As a scout leader with back problems, I usually put an air mattress under my sleeping bag, but another leader showed me this cot in her tent. Once I tried it out, I went straight to the nearest Dick's and bought two! The cot canvas was difficult to get on; may stretch over time and be easier. Surprisingly comfortable, but squeaky every time you turn over. (Maybe WD40 will help?) Loved the bed height/ease of getting out of bed and storage room underneath the cot! Make sure the sides of your tent will accomodate this full-sized cot (bed height vs wall curvature). It was a snug fit end-to-end in my Coleman 4-person dome tent, but plenty of room width for 2 cots. Glad I didn't read the other reviews listed here and miss out on this great option to my air mattress!

So easy, my 8yr old can do it!!!

Don't listen to the comments stating how difficult this is to set up. My 8 year old was able to set this up with no problem. Even better, he was able to break it down and get it back in the carrying case. I can see the issue about the center set of legs bending and breaking. That would be the result of putting approximately 200+ lbs over one set of legs. The weight load is designed for ALL of the legs to support 325 lbs. That means each set of legs will support about 108 lbs. that is why that particular person broke the legs on his cot.

Great for camping

I bought this bed for camping because I hate inflatable beds. It's much more comfortable then an air mattress but it has a VERY strong "paint" smell when you first take it out. I slept on it the first night and woke up with a huge headache but I aired it out all day and was fine the next night, so just let it breath a bit before use. Folds into a good size and the carry pouch is easy to put away in for storage.

It is what it is!

I'm glad that I didn't read all the irresponsible negative reviews on this cot before I purchased it. If treated as just a cot, for crying out loud, then, this item will serve u very well. It's extremely comfortable and firm and it treats your body well. Lastly, if you're a fatty or if you are not handy then this is not the cot for you. F & S makes nice products, many negative reviews are posted by neglectful crybabies.

Great Product and value

Very compact storage. Easy to transport and not too heavy. Very easy and quick to assemble by one person. Large enough for average person to fit comfortably. I use for beach as well as all-day sporting events. I used to use an air mattress, but after two punctures and noisy air pump with sometimes dead batteries, this is a godsend.

I used this cot for a 5-day camping trip. This is the first time I have awoken on a camping trip without back pain! Very firm - very steady. The ONLY drawback is that it squeaks when I turn over. Highly recommend this product - glad I did not go by the negative reviews!

Excellent item

I'm 6'1" 250 LBS and this cot is perfect. I have used it for some time from camping to a spare bed when someone drops in. Sets up quick, sturdy and store in a nice bag with carry handles. In fact I have two of them. Never a problem

Perfect!!!I love this product!I wouldn't change a thing about it.It is easy to set up and easy to put back. I use it all the time when my family and I go on camping trips, which is a lot.

Great Cot

I used this cot 6 times without an issue. Very comfortable. Perfect for an oversized sleeping bag. Easy to set-up, dismantle and pack. Better than an air mattress.

Negative Reviews:

Definitely OVERRATED for weight

I weigh 200 lbs. Very comfortable the first 2 nights of use. The second morning I swung my legs over the edge to get out of the cot and the side rail collapsed. Tried to bend it back for continued use since I was 1000 miles from home. Third night center leg collapsed. Slept on the ground for the rest of my camp out. My 95 lbs son faired well on his cot.

No way could this cot handle any thing over 250 lbs. Did I mention the zipper tab broke off on the carrying case zipping it up on the first use.
? I can't believe Field and Stream wants their name anywhere near this piece of ....! At least the F & S logo looks good on the brand new fabric which is sitting in my trash can.

Doesn't hold up

I tried to use this cot for an overnighter. I weigh about 280, well below the advertised capacity of 325 pounds, but the center leg bent and gave way, leaving me with a completely useless cot after just an hour or so. The legs are cheap aluminum and hold up as such.

I was glad it was just a one-night thing, if I had counted on this for a week-long trip I would have been very tired of sleeping on the ground by the end of the adventure.

I also have a slumberjack oversized cot that I have used dozens of nights with no such problems. Pay a few more bucks and get the slumberjack.

Not even nice if it was free!!!

This is the most useless cot i have ever used. I have had 4 of these either given to me as gifts or bought. They have at best lasted approx. 5-6 camping trips. I had my last two break on me and a friend over the weekend. I am 6'-5" and pushing 250 so I found this cot hoping it would be able to handle the extra size and weight as advertised...I was very much wrong. This cot is not designed to handle anything other than small children or maybe pets. I will not even exchange the last two for free replacements...i am swithcing to a better product.

Center leg bent and then broke

Much better then sleeping on air bed but would not purchase this one again. I purchased a second one because it is very comforable. I bought the insurance and was able to replace it. Easy to store etc. but it to broke. You have to exit cot from the end or you put to much weight in the middle and the the center legs bend. My cousin who is a carpenter replaced the middle legs with wood one and it works great. But I would not recommend this cot to anyone. Spend a few extra dollars and buy a better one.

Stay away

Only gave it one star because I couldn't give it zero.

Bought it to take on a church mission trip. First night I used it the center legs collaped. The guy beside me had one just like it, both our cots were brand new. His collapsed the second night of the trip.

I will say that Dick's was great about taking it back, they gave absolutely no hassle on the return but that was little comfort after I spent a week sleeping on a concrete floor.
Eternal backache at Dick's Sporting Goods on 07/07/2009

Collapsed. Not accurately weight-rated.

I weigh 235 lbs, 100 lbs less than this cot's rating. While camping, it collapsed in the middle, the aluminum legs bending at bad angles on both sides. Cannot be repaired. No extra persons or activity on it at the time, just me on it. Other than that, I liked it. Too bad it was out of warranty. The ends did not fail, just the middle. It also began sagging after a few uses. Only used it about 10 nights before it failed.

Flimsy frame

I purchased this for a camp weekend but decided to assemble it at home beforehand. Thank God!!! I questioned the sturdiness of the frame as soon as it was out of the box. I then went to reppackage it for camping and the packing strap broke. I returned it immediately. Don't go cheap on this item ladies and gentlemen. It it won't hold at least double your weight - It won't last.
Chris Pressler at Dick's Sporting Goods on 07/07/2009

Broke 3 of them

Just like everyone else. The middle bracket bent. I returned it to Dick's twice already. I only weigh 250 and the limit is 325. I don't know how little you have to weigh to use this maybe 90 lbs or so. They need to change the weight rating a lot. Better yet reinforce it to hold the xl person that it is supposed to be for.

I needed a cot for a weekend trip to visit my In-laws. Borrowed this cot from my son who used it 1 TIME. Set up easy, but when I got in, the CENTER LEG FOLDED AND BENT !!!! I ONLY WEIGH 200 LBS AND NOW I HAVE TO BUY HIM A NEW COT, ESPECIALLY WHEN HE SAID, WHEN I PICKED IT UP "DON'T BREAK IT"!!!

Poor Materials

We bought two of these for a 4 day camping trip. Both broke. A metal leg on mine bent the first night. I weight 220 and thought this was the problem. The third night a leg on my wife's started to bend and she weighs 120. We had to bring them home unfolded. They proved to be a waste of time and money.

If I had to do it over I wouldn't buy it

I got the cot for Christmas and use it a lot. The only problem is that the first time I used it I noticed the seams were coming undone and the bag is so thin that it is impossible to zip it up. Once again the carry bag seams was where it ripped. Other than that I will be using it until I fall through it is super super comfy!
