| I have several of these in my home emergency kit to go with the pump unit. The complaint that they clog is true as do all very fine filtering devices. an easy solution is that if you are going to a location that has muddy water is take some coffee filters along and put on over the intake with a rubber band to pre filter the large junk out or a bandanna folded over many times. Nothing substitutes for intelligence. Some of the water holes here in Australia that I have used were very muddy [one even had a dead rue in it, yes I was desperate and used the water anyway with no ill affect] and that is what I did with no difficulties with the filter and I am still using my first filter, 150 gallons is a LOT of water. cheers | |

| Just finished a 2week mission in the mountains of Nepal this water purifier worked flawless,it did everything it said it would do,and none of us got sick, concidering last year when we used another type of filter which caused some of us to get sick, this one worked great,we even did a side by side taste test with our old filter!!!big difference, only wished the stroke on the pump was a little longer, other wise this product worked awsome for us and our needs for 13 people | |

Simply the best. | |

| First Need is the only filter that filters finely enough that it is deemed a purifier by the FDA. It doesn't add anything to the water to kill pathogens (with what cumulative effect on humans?) and does filter out inorganic matter that can be harmful (eg glacial silt). I trust the filter implicitly, have had to use it with very questionable water sources and have never gotten sick. And, yes, it can be field cleaned (backwashed) if necessary. | |

Best filter/purifier out there | |

| The First Need purifier is far superior to other filters I have used, including the PUR/Katadyn hiker models. The First Need is much easier to use (no messing with keeping clean & dirty hoses separate-a major plus with Boy Scouts), fits popular water bottles more easily, and pumps nearly twice as fast as comparable filters. Highly recommended. Worth the higher price. | |

| Filters good when new but once it starts to plug its hard to keep unplugged ,water being filtered needs to be clear water plugs fast if not, back flushing doesnt make sense you use the same pump you use to pump contaminated water through the filter to put in good water to pump backwards through the filter to clean out would not recommend to much cost for the trouble to maintain | |
