Insulation:

  • Fiberglass wood cores feature air channels that keep weight down while maintaining good strength and durability

Weather and Wind:

  • Features 5/10 Nordic Rocker camber that gives the skis great turning characteristics and control in variable snow conditions
  • 5/10 Nordic Rocker indicates that when pressure is applied the ski tips lift 5mm and the location of the ski-to-snow contact point at the front of the skis moves back 10cm
  • Full metal edges dig into hard snow and ice to optimize control on steep terrain
  • Universal stone grind on the bases of the Fischer S-Bound 78 skis provides good glide in all snow conditions
  • Offtrack Crown waxless pattern on the bases provides good grip while you're touring in fresh snow

Features:

  • Offtrack Crown no-wax pattern improves climbing in all conditions, especially away from the prepared tracks and in difficult terrain
  • 5/10 Nordic Rocker improves gliding properties in unprepared terrain and enables better turning with less effort

good ski but different than expected

Bought these to replace Karhu XCD that broke after several years service. I had used the Karhus for "fast and light" on/off trail travel where some turning was needed and conditions could be icy. The Fischer Skis turn great and have good grip uphill - better than the Karhus.

They are a little slow, however. In this regard they underperform the Karhus they replaced. For those of you in the zone between two different sizes I recommend upsizing. I am 160# and am on the 180. I think 190s would have been faster. In fact, these skis are as slow as a pair of Atomics I have that are 10mm wider.

On balance these skis do a good job for me for the niche intended.

Nice ski, not heavy

I replaced my old worn E99's with a pair of these. I dropped back to a 179 length since they are wider and its getting harder to do kick turns in my older age. I have only 4 hours on them so far but in both heavy wet snow and dry powdery stuff. Turns good, floats well and are much lighter than my old E99's. Very satisfied so far
