looks like a pump feels like a sneaker
This is a great comfortable shoe I can wear them all day long. I love the ease of slipping on and off without laces. Since it's a slipper and there are no laces to dial in the fit you need to make sure you select a size that will fit the shoe snuggly all around your foot. Remember that they are leather so they will stretch more than the synthetic shoes. If you get them fitted correctly they feel ahmazing, I actually sized down 1.5 U.S. sizes from my street shoe for a more aggresive feel, and these stretched out perfectly.
The C4 rubber is awesome...I really like 5.10 for this. The shoe is nice and sensitive, so you can feel every little nubbin. The soles are nice and pliable so they're great for smearing and also for working into cracks. This also means that the soles aren't stiff, this was a bit of a problem since my feet aren't super strong and I enjoy the support of a stiffer shoe...but it's a tradeoff I'm happy to make.
All around it's a great shoe it can be an aggresive shoe if you really size down or size it as normal for a super comfy all day performer.
Downsizing is a must because the shoe will stretch considerably. This isn't some macho climber speak. If you don't size down, the shoe will quickly become too big and your feet will be sliding around in them.
I went down 1.5 sizes from street size. After about 10 or so sessions, the fit is like a glove.
I have to replace this shoe just about every 1.2 years. This is climbing about 3 times a week in the gym and maybe 10 times a year outside.
I find that resoling these shoes is not a good idea because the shoes are very stretchy and will eventually become too big after a while. I'm fine with it because I really like the performance of the shoe. It doesn't have any zany bells or whistles. Its simply a good, dependable shoe.
Best of both worlds!
This shoe delivers superb jamming capability, and if you can stand to downsize, also edges wonderfully. It also isn't too expensive (many performance shoes these days seem to be getting close to the $200 area). I wear a 9 1/2 street shoe and got these in an 8 because you can expect the unlined leather to stretch up to one full size. Starting out will be painful! But after a couple climbs, they begin to stretch nicely. However, after purchasing these I tried them out in a local climbing area on a hot day. By the end of the day I noticed small signs of delamination of the rubber on one shoe. Nothing a little shoe glue can't fix, but caused me to give them 4/5 stars because a shoe shouldn't wear that quickly after only one day in the sun.
Not too bad. Honestly I think they could be priced lower for how much use you can really get out of them. If you buy them very tight, expect them to stretch out to the point of being very sloppy in a matter of months. This can be fixed with some strategic sewing and application of shoe goo (hour long fix for another few months of use). I highly recommend sizing them a bit looser than a normal shoe to prevent overstretching. Sized too tight, they will overstretch before needing a resole (bummer!).
Love these on slab because of the sensitivity. Pretty good in crack. Horrible when edging after the first month or two. So comfortable, I once climbed 23 pitches and rapped for 8 hours in these and only lost half a toenail!
Ah the MOCC.... Where do I start? These shoes are pretty much required gear for me at this point...so versatile. If I go anywhere to climb on any type of rock or gym and can only take one pair these get the call. Unlined leather uppers stretch to fit like a glove. I wear 12 street shoes and find an 11 stretches out great while still allowing a snug fit, with toes flat for sliding into cracks. Speaking of cracks there really is no better shoe. No laces to get cut, and low profile. So comfy I can climb long technical routes, soft enough for steeps, sticky for slab, and great toe box for edging. GET THESE SHOES! You will be psyched.
Should have bought these years ago
I've worn these bouldering indoors a few times since buying them and, to be honest, my feet hurt! But, knowing others who have bought these shoes up to a decade ago, they assured me that the real leather uppers will stretch nicely and I'll be grateful for buying the size I did. I made sure to get the size that fit my foot length best without any heel slippage so that when they do stretch I won't loose any control. The best thing about these shoes is the grip of the rubber sole. It's unbelievable! I'm now climbing routes that I couldn't before simply because I know I can trust my feet. For me, that's huge.
Works for me
I'm a 9.5 size in regular shoes. So I took the advice of the previous reviews to get one size lower, 9; that was a mistake because they were so tight, it was unbearable. I sent them back for 9.5 and they were still tight, but within 3 uses, they'd stretched out and they fit very snug and well right now.
Comfy & Precise
Super comfy yet precise. I love these shoes for indoor bouldering, warming up, and even steep sport routes. The only problem is my sweaty feet, which pretty much make these shoes impossible to edge with after my feet start sweating. But I can get over that, with being able to wear them all day long.
Great shoes at a great price
I am thouroughly pleased with this purchase! Not only did RC have an excellent price on the shoe, but they have performed very well for me. So far, they have mostly seen duty in the gym. I have been outside with them once, and they performed very well there too.
My Favorite Climbing Shoes
This is my favorite pair of climbing shoes I have ever owned. I am on my 6th or 7th pair and I keep coming back for more. They climb super good till they stretch out, then they become great all day shoes and warm-up shoes. Good for beginners to experts.
