The Five Ten Blackwing Women's Climbing Shoe combines an aggressive profile with a durable design that's well-suited for both climbing and bouldering. Thanks to a formed heel cup, the Blackwing has an extra snug fit, and its rugged Mystique rubber offers maximum friction on overhanging problems and routes. Don't sweat it if your project takes a few tries; a microfiber lining delivers plenty of moisture management as well as a comfortable, fleecy feel when you're hanging off a jug-haul 40 feet up.

Five Ten Blackwing Climbing Shoe Reviews:

Positive Reviews:

I ordered these in both a 7.5 and 8 based on other reviews.
I wear a 7.5 street size. My La Sportiva Muiras are a size 37. I have a wider foot at the toes, nothing ridiculous. (For reference - Scarpa rockettes in sizes 37.5 did not fit my higher volume foot.
I mostly boulder, often indoors at anywhere from a V2-V7 in plastic land. I prefer a more down turned shoe for overhang problems.
These shoes run small, I tried for a while to cram my feet into the 7.5 (my slightly larger foot was not having it) I could get them in, but walking was close to impossible and the material being synthetic, likely wont stretch enough. The 8, I was hesitant to keep, since on one foot, my heel felt slippy.
I brought 'em to the gym and realized that the 8 had to be the right size since I rip them off my feet after a problem. They are relatively comfortable - one hot spot at my big toe, and a pocket in the heel of the other foot. The tongue padding is really nice. The aggressive toe has been helpful.
I am really hoping that these hold their shape and stay together.

Best shoes I've worn yet

These shoes are amazing. I have really narrow feet and a very shallow heel. I've worn the Miuras (M and F, both laced and velcro), Testarossas, Teams, and now these, and I have to say the only shoes that come even slightly close to the Blackwings are the Teams. The fit on the Lady Blackwings are an absolute dream...imagine Sportiva fit with 5.10 performance. :) There are no pockets of air anywhere, nor are there hotspots. The heel fits better (more snug) than the Teams and the toe rubber is slightly less stiff and more sensitive than the Teams. Also, the fleece lining inside is SO. COMFORTABLE. Love these.

Great for overhangs, heel/toe hooking is incredible, sensitive enough to send hard slabs...seriously the perfect shoe.

For sizing, I wear:
Miura/Tesstarosa: 39
5.10 Teams: 8
5.10 Lady Blackwing: 8.5

Size UP 1.5-2 sizes. Possibly more?

DISCLAIMER: Never got to climb in them!

My street shoe size is a 6.5

Based on reviews elsewhere, I ordered a 7 and a 7.5

My feet barely fit into the 7.5s and I could not feel my toes. I tried to stretch them out with hiking socks and patience, but I think an 8.5 might have been a better idea.

I returned them and gave up since there's no REI nearby me. At least not close enough to justify reordering and risking another terrible fitting experience.

Sizing aside, the shoe itself looks like it would perform really well--IF you could get it to fit. The rubber looks/feels great, but I did not actually get to climb in them...since the sizing was way off.

Performance shoe with no strings attache

I generally prefer climbing shoes with laces since you can adjust the fit more precisely. However, for bouldering, velcro is just so much more convenient. The Blackwing gives you Dragon performance with the ease of Velcro. I still like the Dragons better since I prefer the more adjustable fit, but when I'm bouldering and taking the shoes on and off more frequently, the Blackwing is the way to go.
Just the Facts at Rock/Creek Outfitters on 05/05/2012

Great shoe, very sensitive. Allows for precise foot work. Good for steep climbing.
But what's with 5.10 and their heels? The heel is better than previous 5.10 Anasazi shoes. But there is still a small air pocket at the tip of the heel.
Overall, the shoe is great.

First shoe I bought was too big;

The first pair I got were too large. REI customer service was good about getting a smaller pair to me.

Negative Reviews:

Run waaaaay small

Saw previous reviews about these running small, so I bought my street shoe size. No chance whatsoever of jamming my feet in them. The look like good shoes. I'm going to order two sizes bigger, but maybe even three.
