Fox Head Inc Flux Bike Helmet Reviews:

Positive Reviews:

Looks good!

I ordered this helmet because I really liked the aggressive style. The fit was great for me, even though I wear a fitted hat 7 3/8 which is borderline between small/medium I opted to go with that size instead of the large/xl.

I like using the back of head adjustment to make sure the helmet doesn't move around while riding, but I wish it had some sort of sweat padding for sweat because it's all plastic. The sweat builds up really fast there. I just might wrap a sweat band around it.

Other than that, where there is padding, it works exceptionally well with absorbing sweat on my forehead and nothing gets in my eyes.

It is a fairly simple, straightforward design with easy adjustments. This helmet is comfortable, lightweight and it works for me! I don't feel like too much of a nerd when wearing it.

Excellent, full coverage

I just purchased my second Flux helmet. I have been very happy with this helmet, and am extremely glad that I purchased this prior to my past riding season. I am getting a new one because I had a bad crash that sent me to the hospital with a concussion. When I landed it was directly on my head, and toward the back of it. I do not believe that most helmets would have provided sufficient coverage as this one did. There's no other helmet I plan to use for mountain biking.

The only two shortcomings are the visor becoming detached easily, and the rear adjustment. Both of these have proved to be extremely minor nuisances, and in no way affect my choice to purchase another.

Finally, no more mushroom head!

I love the full coverage feel this helmet gives me around the temples and back of my head. It also has a slim profile that unlike several of my other helmets does not make me look like Toad from Mario Brothers. Love the flat finishes, but do yourself a favor and ditch the visor. Sure it makes you look more "aggressive" but limits your visibility. Helmet still looks slick w/o the visor.

As the summer heats up in Austin, I'm waiting to see how well the air vents perform vs the beating sun soaking into the flat black paint. Might end up rattle-caning this to match my bike and give a little sun protection.

Great Helmet, Great Design....Finally!

I love the design of this helmet. It definitely has a more aggressive look that fits my personality as an aggressive mountain biker that likes to ride both cross country and some more technical rides. It has good protection for the back of your head. I rated it as "feels true to size", but would like to point out that my head size was right on the border between S/M and L/XL sizes and I got the L/XL and was glad I did. It fits perfectly. I would highly recommend this product for anyone looking for a well designed product that also provides a more stylish look.

Best Coverage, very comfortable

I compared this helemt in store against the Giro Xen, Hex and a few others. This one had the best coverage especially in the back of the head and temples. The padding on the Xen was a little better but the Flux still fit me the best, Xen sits off the back of your head too much, the flux felt like more of a custom fitted helmet. I like the rounded back for the same reason the EMT guy says, no whiplash. All that and it's the best looking all-mtn helmet, only[$]bucks, i am very happy with my decision.

It's good!

It feels solid and I feel like I'll get lots of good miles out of it. The visor is low enough to shield my eyes from the sun during the 'strobe' moments. The straps system is durable.

Just a little bigger than I would've thought. I did the measurements before buying and I feel like if there was a second set of 'thicky' pads in the box it would've been even better.

As I get used to it, I'm liking it more and more. Bottom line: I like this helmet.

First-class brain bucket

I bought the 'punk black' -- it's black, blue, red, and white, and it has flowers and eyeballs and a whole bunch of strange stuff in the pattern. Weird and wonderful!!! Clashes with everything. Oh yeah, it fits great and has 'way better than average coverage down the occipital lobe (that's the pointy area in back of one's skull). They do offer plainer colors for those of you who want something duller -- whatever trips your trigger. Fairly priced and excellent quality.

Good Helmet

Fits well, feels good and keeps ya cool on a hot day. Got two cons though: if you have a bald head you have to wear something on you head or you will get sunburn. And the second, not sure if this is really a con but this helmet is huge. I have a smaller size head, 6 3/4, and with this thing on i am afraid that i will start pulling in satellites. Other than that great helmet.

Pumpkin Head.

I have a big pumpkin head and not many helmets fit me comfortably. I researched this helmet and reviews were positive. I went to REI and picked it out and had it rung up. To my surprise, it was on sale. I've gone on a few rides with it and is very snug and comfortable. Great Investment. I've crashed and dented a helmet before. I feel this helmet will do the job if needed.

Great helmet!

Of all the helmets I looked at, this one is clearly the coolest looking helmet & has a unique style. I use it for mountain biking & it seems to provide a little more protection than most. My only complaint is that it is a little heavier than other helmets at this price point and lower, but having such a cool helmet makes it worth carrying around a little extra weight.

Negative Reviews:

High hopes lead to disappointment

I bought this helmet after some time trying it on in the store. It looks good and fits my head pretty nicely. Once I took the size and color I wanted home I started taking a closer look at the helmet. so here are my gripes
-Poor Construction:
-unevenly molded foam
-rear strap holder is set into helmet crooked
-visor is not well attached
-Poor Design:
-rear straps get caught in retention device
-rear retention device lacks anything to keep
it form riding up the back of your head
-single continuous strap makes adjustment
-Side buckles cause the straps to twist
in an uncomfortable manner
I usually like Fox gear and this helmet looked great sitting on my head in the store so I really wanted this helmet to be a good product. Unfortunately, I have to conclude that, especially at this price, the shortcomings of this helmet are unacceptable.
The Flux has too many similarities to much cheaper helmets to be a contender in this price range.

Nice while it lasted, which was not long

I bought it for the looks - it's a great looking helmet. It was also comfortable for my biggish head. Once I took it home, problems became more obvious. The fit was loosen or over tighten frequently on the back adjustments which are basically cable-ties, sort of like miniature snowboard straps. I would find myself fussing with it while riding because it was always coming loose or tightening up. It seems like adjusting should be a one-handed operation, but to really get it right, I had to stop and take the helmet off. Once it was working, it was very comfortable.

But the back strap snapped in half, which made it impossible to stay fitted. Not having the back strap stabilizing the helmet makes the helmet sort of useless, so I'm shopping for a new helmet and will not get another Fox Flux.

The Good and the Bad

The helmet fits well but the head size adjustment is a ratchet and comes apart fairly easily. Even though it has lots of vents, the helmet is hot due to having a very thick liner. The helmet at 395 grams is heavy which probably gives good protection, but the heat buildup is substantial. The visor detaches too easily and I finally just glued it to the helmet.
