If it only had a longer handle!

I’ve used this net for two seasons, fishing steelhead fishing in western NY. It’s a nice LIGHTWEIGHT net, especially for wading. The only negative is that it’s handle is too short. I’ve been searching for a lightweight net such as this—that can be clipped on the back of my vest—but that has a retractable-type (i.e., “telescoping”) handle. Adding another 12-24” in the handle, that could be collapsed into the net itself (when not in use, but clipped to one’s vest), would make all the difference in the world for those of us who keep out nets with us while wading in the rivers. I’m not sure why others rated this net so poorly, because my buddies and I think completely otherwise based on two seasons of practical experience. I’ve landed many large brown and steelhead with this net.

Great Steelhead net

I use this net on Lake Erie / Great Lakes Steelhead. If you are looking for a light weight, compact net, this is the net for you! If you are using it for salmon then of course it will be too small but I have landed 28" steelhead in it with no problem. I have to check every once in a while to make sure that the net is still there because it is so light. I find the short handle is nice for easy carry.

Frabill Salmon/Steelhead Wading Net = Fry Pan!

I purchased this net and recently used it on a steelhead trip. I would describe it as a fry pan. The steelhead hit the bottom and jumped back out like it had hit hot oil. In concept it seems good, until you net a fish. The rim is a good size, but the net is not deep enough. Lost one fish and gave it away. I would not recommend this net for larger fish, such as steelhead or salmon as it is marketed for.
