Frye Billy Firebird Reviews:

Positive Reviews:

I have owned a couple of pairs of these boots and they are really nice. The Firebird Billy is made of a softer leather than the standard Billys and the side pulls on these boots are much more firmly attached. I have gotten two pairs in the Dark Brown Vintage about 8 months apart, one from Zappos and one directly from the manufacturer. The one from the manufacturer I got earlier and was a beautiful color with a deep burgundy undertone, the ones I got more recently from Zappos didn't have the same undertone. I don't know if it was because they were an off pair or if the coloring has changed over time. I ended up sending the Zappos pair back because they just didn't seem quite as well made and the coloring was off. I also have gotten the Burnt Red Vintage color and it is very pretty but pretty bright, not a true burnt color. That said, the pair I did keep I love. I have worn through a couple of pairs now, usually fairly quickly, but that was with every day wear. Frye will repair the boots for up to 2 years from their date of purchase, just contact them directly. Overall they are a great pair of boots, get them at least a size larger than you usually wear.

I normally wear a size 8 in Frye boots, but I read numerous reviews that these ran a little small. I ordered a size 8.5, and I am glad that I did. They fit perfectly and they were not too stiff. It didn't take long to break them in. I wear thick, wool socks with them. If I wear thin, cotton socks, the boot will rub against my ankle bone and will cause discomfort. They come with a little bit of a worn look, which I really like. I absolutely love these boots. They are so comfortable for being western cowboy boots, and I am always getting compliments! Great to work in too!

These boots are absolutely beautiful. They are somewhat comfortable - the boot for my right foot hurts my ankle sometimes - the one on the left does not. Go figure. Still, the boots are so stunning I don't really mind - I am hoping that as the leather ages and softens this will no longer be an issue. I did end up needing to order these in a 9 instead of my regular 8.5.

Negative Reviews:

Long time Frye fan...these boots are beautiful, well made. The fit is fine on the feet; same as my usual size: 6.5 The inner seams on each side of the boot dug in to my ankles, and I could tell this wasn't something that would work itself out with time and wear. I didn't want to try to risk it and take the rubber mallet to the leather (as I've done to break in many boots).

These boots are GORGEOUS! However, I have to ship them back to Zappos and order a different pair because they run so small! I ordered a size 9, and can't even get one foot into them. I think I will need a size 10 or size 11, so I hope I pick the right one. If you plan to order these, definitely order at least one whole size larger than your usual shoe size!
