I bought this because I also have the Carmen short back lace boots in fawn that I bought a few years ago. Since then I've worn those boots a hundred or so times and have come to appreciate the quality, and comfort Frye boots are known for. Because I love the Carmen style, and knew they worked for me, I got this Carmen X-stitch in black, in the same size, in 6.5 M. They are perfectly same fit as the short lace, slightly loose - meaning plenty of room for all my toes to spread out, and nothing pinching the sides of my feet. They are very comfortable, no aches or pains anywhere. I am a solid 6.5 M in almost all my shoes, with a slightly narrow feet, but am most comfortable with medium widths. I am between 36.5 and 37 in European sizes. I wear a 7M in sneakers. These X-stitch Carmens are very solid to walk on. For a 2 1/2 heel, they are amazingly comfortable. I've worn all day during 10+ hour work days, and I'm on my feet a lot. No pains at the end of the day. Can wear under dress slacks, under boot-cut jeans, over skinnies, or leggings. Also looks great with skirts and cute casual dresses. Very versatile. I have worn with thin, or medium weight socks, no issues. Love this style. They are more dressy than my Veronica shorties that I also love.
Since having my daughter 5 years ago I have not been able to wear heels - my feet hurt too badly. I'm five foot nothing so I've always preferred wearing something to give me some extra height. I've been looking at these boots for a while now and finally gave in...I actually should have given in years ago! I wore these for the first time today and sitting here at the end of the day, for the first time in five years, my feet don't hurt. This was after wearing 2 1/2 inch heels all day. If I had of known how perfect Frye boots were, I'd have a lot fewer pairs of boots in my closet but my feet would have been a lot happier - quality over quantity is something that I think I've fully grasped after this experience. My feet or toes were not squeezed or pinched in anyway - I can honestly say this is the only pair of shoes that I own that does not pinch or end up making my feet ache. I'd recommend these to anyone - these were worth every penny.
This is my 5th pair of Frye boots. I also have a pair of Frye flats. Each has been comfortable from day 1. I love that. The Carmen X Stitch Short is dressy enough for work, casual and comfortable enough for the weekend and "cool" enough for evening.
