Frye Carmen X Stitch Tall Reviews:

I'm 5'8", 135 lbs, I ordered the Carmen X stitch tall and the Carmen Boot in the saddle Dakota. I wanted to love these boots. They are far more distressed than the photos show and to me, the pattern of distressing seemed to contrived and repetitious. The boot leather felt thin and appeared to lack the integrity that would keep the boots from softening and sagging in the ankles and calves later on. The foot leather was smooth and strong. The top of both pair of boots lacked structure on the seaming which created a very "ruffled", asymmetrical appearance, this cheapened the look of the boots to me. This could have been rectified with a inside folded and stitched hem at the top of the boot during the design process. I was not happy with what I saw in general, there were many flaws on the sides of the boots soles and heels in the leather application, trimming and dying process. I expect a boot this expensive to have perfect, flawless construction. Both pair of boots were a little tight on my feet and I have fairly narrow feet without any bunions, I suspect in time they would have stretched nicely though. The Carmen boot sat high on my foot causing a cutting sensation on my ankle where the strap set, this could feel very different if a person has a longer heel bone or a heel pad inserted to give lift. I have very curvy calves with narrower proportionate ankles and both pair of boots were far too wide for me. I tried both pair with skirts/tights and they looked way to western and chunky for my taste. Both pair were cute with skinny jeans/cords with room to spare and looked nice with boot cut or wider legged pants to fit over the boots. I returned both pair and am still looking.

The leather part above the ankle seam is soft and lacks structure that is shown on the website picture. The upper part of the boot sags above this ankle seam and looks awkward. I always catch myself pulling the boots up to minimize the sagging. Maybe I need to stuff my boots with newspapers when I wear them? The leather part below the ankle seam is stiff, like you would expect on cowboy boots. I highly recommend buying the Frye conditioning cream for leather maintenance. Order half a size bigger if you want to wear socks thicker than dress socks. Footbed structure/support is very minimal. Far less than my Ariat boots. I hope they break in as fast and nicely as my Ariat boots. Overall, I am happy with the quality and appearance.

I am always looking for a balance of style and comfort. I absolutely love these boots. I could wear them all day and night. Suitable for work and daily life. Frye carries a hefty price tag -- but I know I will have these for a very long time. 100% worth it.

Love these boots! The leather is gorgeous and they are incredibly comfortable right out of the box. I get tons of compliments.
