I heavily rely on reading reviews before I purchase, especially when I purchase expensive boots online. Since this Frye style is new with no reviews, I felt compelled to let you know my experience. At the risk of sounding like a broken record, I must say these Lindsay Logo zip Fryes are the most beautiful boots I have ever seen in person. Absolutely regal and beautiful, like a work of art, which is why I cried as I packaged them up to send back. I hear this so many times and I don't understand why Frye doesn't want money from those of us with larger calves. And honestly, I am not a large person, I am 5'7, wear an 8-10 in clothes and an 8.5 shoe, with alas 15 inch calves. The foot fit great, maybe a tad long, but the issue was the calf and the back zipper. I literally ripped up my fingers trying to pull this zipper up. At first, it wasn't a size issue because I have relatively small ankles (7-8 inches), the zipper is just very hard to get started, then the calf was way too tight. This biggest issue I had is that I called the Frye company and asked specifically about this boot and they said in a size 8.5 the calf should be 15-16 inches, NOT. These were 14 inches at best. My calves are 15.2 inches on one and 15.5 the other. I got them zipped but with major pain and now blood blisters on my fingers. So, I took them to a cobbler, like many here state they do to get them stretched, but he wouldn't risk it with the zipper and logo. Now maybe he was being too safe, but I decided I had to give them up! The cobbler even said they were the most beautiful boots HE had ever seen. So, we both had a good cry. If you have under 14 inch calves buy these and wear them proudly for all of us who cannot. All I can hope is that Frye will eventually see the money they are losing by not making enough boots with a larger calf, but since they've been around 100 years or something, it's doubtful that will happen. I honestly think 14-15 inch calf is a very average and normal size for us good ole American girls, who can kick it, using our muscular and I must say sexy legs. As usual, love Zappos, great site for buying and, if need be, returning anything with ease! However, I hope they will accept the tear stained box!
I just received my boots today. My calf is a size 14". My feet take size 10 boots. I have long lean legs and have never had a problem with getting any boots on my calf, but I read one review where the person had a problem with the calf fit on these boots. She was of a shorter stature, so the calf may have been in the wrong spot for the proper fit of the boots. Upon trying my boots on, I have to say that the boots just fit on my calfs. Another half inch and I would not have been able to zip them up. These are not the boots for anyone who has over 14" calfs. I wanted the back zipper because I am 60 years old, and have other Frye boots, but did not want to wrangle boots on without a zipper to help. The zip opening on these boots is well done and easy to fit the feet into. The foot portion is nicely styled and both well fitting plus comfortable. I like the tabs/accessory closings and snaps on the boots. The heels are just the perfect height. There are nice details! The logo is well done and in the black color, does not stand out to the point of being too much. The zipper works well and is nicely sewn into the boot. These are magnificent boots, if your calfs are the right size. As with all Frye products, the boots are made with master craftsmanship. I am surprised that a company such as Frye is not more aware of making a larger calf circumference on such expensive boots. These boots, because of the small calf size, limits the people who can wear them. I am quite pleased with my boots, and they fit well, too!
I purchased these boots some time ago, and have worn them many times so this is a report on a boot after it is worn in. Yes, this boot is for someone with a long leg, and calves that are not larger than 14". The zipper in the back is tight, and I used an oil to work the zipper for easier use. Now after wearing them for some time, the zipper works very easily. The foot portion of this book is well crafted, and my foot slipped right in, without any pain. Now, the boot has molded to my feet, and the fit is even better, I would call it excellent. The zipper works very well, and they are now molded to my legs and feet, amazing boots. The leather is very pliable and molds to the foot and leg after about 6 uses. They are very comfortable and look amazing on. I have found with all Frye boots, and I have several, they need to be worn in at least 6 times before they begin to mold to foot and leg, and feel like they were made for your foot. Still an amazing boot, as with all Frye products, just make sure you have a long leg and a calf no larger than a size 14 inches.
I purchased these in the redwood color. They are absolutely gorgeous, and they are the perfect height for me (I'm 5'8" with verrry long thin legs and they hit *right* below my knee). The leather is great quality and is thick and stiff. The back zip with snaps is sexy and very equestrian, which appeals to me. However, I did end up returning them because the ankle was a little less fitted than I liked and I didn't like the logo as much as I thought I would. They are gorgeous overall, and I do recommend them, but only to the taller, thinner ladies with long legs, otherwise they will be way too tall and tight. I have a 13.5 inch circumference calf at the widest point, and these were tight - I just managed to zip them all the way up comfortably over skinny jeans. So the circumference is NOT 15" as stated - it's between 13.5-14".
These boots are gorgeous! But they are so tall in the shaft. I'm 5'7" and they came up so high on the back of my legs that I could not sit down in them. As one other reviewer said, you probably need to be at least 5'9" for these to work. That being said, I loved them so much that I took them to a boot shop and had an inch trimmed off the top and the zipper shortened. I just couldn't give them up!
