Frye Melissa Tall Riding Reviews:

Positive Reviews:

I was looking for knee-high boots that are leather all around (not stretch fabric) that are for narrower calves. I have narrow ankles and calves and most boots don't fit well. I loved the style but didn't buy the Paige tall riding boots because of the width and reviews. When I saw that they made the same gorgeous style in a narrower calf size I had to give it a try. They fit like a glove, hit right below the knee (I'm 5'10''), and can be worn with almost anything. They are tight enough on my legs that I would need very skinny jeans - the teenager kind! Instead, I wear the boots with skirts and dresses with cozy winter tights.

I LOVE these boots! I am 5'2'' and weight 105lbs. I am a runner but my calves are still small. These are perfect for girls with skinny legs. The zipper allows you to keep a sleek look. My last Frye boots took a lot of wear until they broke in. The first time I wore them they were perfect! I highly recommend this book for a slimmer leg who wants a sleek look!

I love these boots! I have thin calves and these feet me great not baggy. If you have large calves this style will be to tight. Zappos is always great!

Negative Reviews:

I bought these boots at a local shoe store. I wish that I had used Zappos. I wore them inside for one afternoon and my feet were in agony. I have very narrow feet and small calfs. The boots fit me well but they have no arch or foot support. If you need arch support do not buy these boots. They are a beautiful color (I bought the burnt red) and a beautiful style. The look is perfect but the boots are unwearable for me. Too bad. I bought them elsewhere and cannot return them .I will never buy shoes anywhere but Zappos again.

Neutral Reviews:

I spent a lot of time researching which Frye boots to buy and the various styles online. I ordered several pairs and sent them back and even went to the Frye flagship store in my city and tried on numerous styles, but they didn't have this one in stock (which seems strange). I finally decided on these because I thought they were classic, they would last through any trends, and they would work with my narrow calves. I have now had the Melissa Tall Riding boots for a few weeks and I am pretty happy with them, with some reservations relating to the fit. First, the toe is "almond" shaped, meaning it is longer than I expected and somewhat pointy, rather than rounded. The toe extends a bit beyond where my toes end and that feels weird when walking. I think over time I will get used to it, but it is a surprise. Second, the boots are narrow through the ball of the foot. I know they will stretch because they are all leather, but they may not work for you if you have a wide foot. Third, the leather is a little hard. I got Redwood Soft Vintage, and while I love the color, the leather feels stiff, not soft. I do think that the boots will last and they look good with skinny jeans and even skirts. They are a more formal style than some of the other worn in looking leather boots by Frye. It seems to me they will need some breaking in. Note that Frye boots run large. I ordinarily wear an 8 or even 8.5 in boots, but I got a 7.5. I wonder if I should have bought a 7, but I think that would have been far too narrow. I am now wearing them with an arch support to give me a little more lift in the heel, and the support fits inside the boot fine. I decided to invest in Fryes because of the amazing reviews from people who have had the boots for years and swear by them, but they are tricky in sizing, style and fit. If you can find a style that works for you, I think they are worth the investment, but I am not certain the style I bought is the right style for me.
