Frye Phillip Work Boot Reviews:

Well, I am about to do something I thought I would never do. I ordered three pairs of boots from Zappos, as many folks do trying to decide which is nearly impossible online, and I intended to send two pairs back. It turns out that I am probably going to keep them all. Two of the pairs were two colors of this Frye Phillip Work Boot, one black and one brown (the "dark brown vintage brush off"... First off though they are the same style and the fit is very similar, these are nearly different boots. The tanning process on the brown ones makes for a slightly stiffer leather, and there is also one important fact you should know, which you can tell from the pictures if you look closely. This particular brown color is the only of the four that has an added thicker, slightly lugged (very slightly) hard rubber outsole (the others are all leather soled only). This makes this particular boot slightly chunkier, heavier and stiffer all around. I do not mean that it is chunky, heavy and stiff, just slightly moreso than the other colors. For this reason I am keeping both. I have bought Fryes before when I need boots for the Forest Service many years ago and have not bought a pair since, though I have sung the praises of the brand for the past nearly 20 years. You are not going to jump into a fireline in these boots (well I suppose you could in a pinch) but wearing around town, dressed up or down, they are amazingly well built and should last for literally years. I know boots and there is a reason I kept both pairs of the same darn boot! Fantastic. Five stars all around. I love them.

Buy these boots! I'm a huge fan of quality footwear and have wanted a pair of Frye boots for quite a while. After pouring over the selection on Zappos, I finally decided on the Phillip work boot in black. I chose them for their versatility as a casual boot that could also be a little dressy. When they arrived (Zappos always ships quickly) I was blown away by the quality: beautiful soft, full-grain leather, hard wearing but not chunky, and surprisingly comfortable right off the bat. Yes, these Frye's are made in Mexico, but the workmanship seems impeccable. I wear a 10 1/2 in athletic shoes but ordered a 10 after reading reviews that mentioned they run large. The 10s fit well, so going half a size smaller seems to be a good rule of thumb. I've only had these a few days but have already gotten multiple compliments from complete strangers. Yes, women do notice your shoes. I usually wear them with some jeans and a leather jacket, but you could wear them with slacks and a tie as well. Wearing them with a full-formal suit would be pushing it a little but though. Overall, I'm very pleased with these boots, and with proper care (order the Frye Weatherproof Dressing and protect them from the elements) I'm confident they'll last for many years to come.

I love the Phillip Work Boot. It is a sturdy little lace up with lots of style, character and charm from the prolific Frye company. I will say that the name of the boot is a little misleading in that I would not recommend this boot for any type of real heavy work. It's a casual every day kind of boot that looks great dressed up or down.

As a huge fan of Frye boots and shoes, I was very disappointed to learn that they are no longer manufactured exclusively in the USA. However, these boots are supremely stylish and very well made. I am very pleased with the fit, quality and look of these boots. I ordered a half size down and they fit perfectly.

Awesome boots. Awesome customer service. I usually wear a 10.5-11, I ordered a 10 and they fit great. These boots may hurt for the first 1-2 weeks especially at the heels, I had to manually soften the heel counter myself because they hurt so bad. However, after breaking them in they feel amazing.
