I love these. The charcoal color is actually dark brown. They look dressy and smooth. Like another reviewer mentioned, the lining is the suede underside of the outside leather, not a smooth lining like some other styles. However, this is also how my harness 15Rs are made. These boots are a stiff leather, and they were initially tight at the calf. However, after a few minutes on, they softened and loosened up. I found the leather to be a wonderful color and quality. They were a breeze to put on, and I wore them all day, at work, right out of the box. My usual size fit perfectly. They were extremely comfortable and lightweight to wear. I also got many compliments.
Gorgeous boots, high quality, definitely true to size. Rugged looking with a lived in look and feel. I'm a 10 and tried 9.5 but was too small so stuck with a 10. Definitely order your real size. I have average sized calves, shaft width can easily accommodate skinny jeans and leggings and boot cut jeans easily fit over the top but I can see in smaller sizes the shaft gets tighter. Not a lot of arch support so wouldn't recommend a hike in them but went shopping all day without a problem. Tons and tons of compliments!
I LOVE these boots. Super stylie and easy to wear with jeans or leggings. they fit great up the leg, not too wide. They are NOT lined, so if you are looking for warm, this is not the boot for you, unless you order a FULL size larger for thicker socks. They have a great look, zipper is a little clunky, but I oiled it and it is fine. I am an 8.5 always, and I found them narrow and a bit short so I easily exchanged for a 9 and they are perfect!
Just received today the Smith Eng Tall in the tan pebbled antique leather, my usual Frye size 6. First of all, these are NOT leather lined. They just have the sueded side of the leather on the inside, not the smooth leather lining as described and like many Frye boots have, which I love. The color of the leather is pretty but the leather feels and looks somewhat like pleather and looks rather stiff on. Also, the foot is really long; I could most likely wear a 5.5. However, because of the lack of lining and the pleather look, I won't be trying the 5.5. I'll be returning these tomorrow. Pretty disappointing for a Frye boot.
I want to like these boots, i really do. They are distressed to perfection. It's just that i can't get past the squared toe. They look kind of pilgrim-y. But if distressed pilgrim chic is your thing, then you should definitely get them!
