FSA championed the concept of the wing-style handlebar years ago. They provided riders with the first-ever alternative to the traditional round shape of bar tops. The flattened cross section nicely molded to the shape of loose fists -- exactly what many of us have when we climb with our hands on the tops. With the Wing Pro Compact, FSA mates this wing-style top with a shallow ("compact") drop. At a 125mm drop and 80mm reach with round drops, you can easily find your sweet spot in the drops without having to force your hands to conform to the flat area of an anatomic drop.
The Wing Pro Compact is made from double-butted, tapered, shot-peened, and anodized aluminum. The center clamping section is purposely wide, at 120mm, so that you'll be able to clamp on accessories, like aero bars. They come in a 31.8mm clamp only and are available in 40, 42, and 44cm c-c.
I have these on both my bikes. just the right combination of drop and reach so transitions between hood's and drops is quick and seemless, very comfortable in both positions. the continuous curve through the drop is perfect, I've had ergo shaped pars and found they put to much load in all the wrong places on my palms when in the drops, no problems since switching to these bars. The wing shape is great, I have mine wrapped fully and find the flatter shape feals better on the hands when you want to take it easy and sit upright with your hands on the top's. Unlike the other reviewer I was able to mount a light to them, there is a short section of round bar on either side of the stem providing just enough room to mount accesories to the bar like a light or clip on aerobars. there is a little finagling depending on how you have your cables routed but it is doable. I dont see myself using another bar unless these end up discontinued, in which case I might stock up on several pair's.
I had a perfectly good set of compact carbon bars on my Pinerello Paris, but just not the shape or feel for me. Tried the Wing Pros on my Cervelo S2. Loved them. Comfortable up top while climbing; comfortable on the drops while descending or riding tempo. Feel and fit is subjective. These bars work for me.
My first set of road handlebars and I love them. The top where your hands rest when you are sitting up is nice and flat and is comfortable for taking a break from the drop position. Now that I finally got them adjusted right, the drop is comfortable as well. Highly recommended.
This is a nice handlebar but manufacturers don't recognize this shape for add-ons like a headlight. If you ride at night, especially in hotter climes, a night ride is great but you won't be doing it with this handlebar. It would be nice if someone could mount a headlight on the handlebar stem.
